Avengers, assemble…in three years!

Walt Disney Studios announced on Thursday that the untitled sequel to The Avengers, the third-highest grossing movie of all time, will arrive in theaters on Fri., May 1, 2015. As the studio announced last week, Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the project as part of an exclusive three-year film and television deal with Marvel.

The announcement rounds out the next five films in Marvel’s “Phase Two” slate: Iron Man 3 is set for May 3, 2013; Thor: The Dark World for Nov. 8, 2013; Captain America: The Winter Soldier for April 4, 2014; and Guardians of the Galaxy for Aug. »

Not a very impressive slate. Whedon, to me, is a bland been there done that choice for director. He's a safe pick. You know what you are going to get with him, the movie will be good, the dialogue will have its moments, but overall nothing will stand out. Would've been nice to see them go with a more radical choice like Warner Bros did with the Dark Knight series.

As for the other films....Iron Man is played out, no need at all for 2 movies, let alone 3.

Does Thor really deserve two movies???? Thor?

Captain America: Winter Soldier is the one I am very much looking forward to provided they follow the storyline of Brubaker's Winter Soldier.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Are you shitting me? I doubt anyone besides me even knows who they are and for those of you who don't, the star is a talking racoon. Say no more.

Not that version of the Guardians, no. The racoon is "Rocky Racoon." Really, that's all I need to say about that. Well, okay: a Bill Mantlo character.

I'm fond of the mid-70s Guardians. As a quirky comic, not as anything a movie-going audience would want to see. I mean, Christ, the 70s Deathlok would be better received!

No thanks. I had high hopes for the Ed Norton one, but that was nearly as bad as the Eric Bana one. Just awful....

Bad, but not as bad as Bana. Norton is one of my favorite actors. I almost felt as though playing the Hulk was beneath him. This new cat plays a sort of awkward, sort of scary Bruce Banner pretty well. Maybe throw him in someone elses (Thor, Ironman) movie. But I would prefer one that doesn't follow the normal Hulk movie format. Fuck all the stupid Army shit. Have Wolverine hunt him or something...

Pretty sure he'll show up to another Bulls outing. Or, when him, Doug and Frank have another show at Katie O'Connor's.

Have I got a news for you! Brace yourselves, ’cause this is AWESOME! Marvel has made their first big move concerning ‘phase 2′ of their media empire since revealing Joss Whedon’s planned involvement in bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe into television.

According to reports, ABC has now ordered a pilot episode for a planned S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series with Joss Whedon set to co-write.

The upcoming series will revolve around the well-known S.H.I.E.L.D agency that was prominently displayed in Marvel’s films and will feature the writing of both Joss and his brother Jed. The upcoming series, simply titled S.H.I.E.L.D., will mark Joss Whedon’s return to television since wrapping up Fox’s Dollhouse in 2010. In fact, not only is Whedon on board to co-write the beginning stages of the series, but he’s also on board to direct the pilot episode if his schedule will allow it
