Should be a good one tonight about onetime Chicago prep basketball star Ben Wilson, his tragic death
just over 25 years ago and the effect it had on the nation but more importantly Chicagoland. Should be
really good.

What's sad is nothing has changed in 25 years. I wonder what the crime figures are now vs. then?

Saw it last month. Was pretty good. Kinda surprised even almost 30 years later the ex girl friend refuse to talk. I wonder where he would of ended up going to college?

I'd like to believe he would've been on the Flying Illini team with Nick and they would've won the title in '89 like they were supposed to.

But then again being the number one player in the country, he probably would've just gone to NC to play for Dean.

Imagine Len Bias and Ben Wilson both in the NBA with Michael Jordan in his prime.

No, he was going to DePaul or Illinois. Pretty sure.

I think he probably would have gone to Illinois with Nick.

ABC7 Investigative Reporter Chuck Goudie is also part of tonight's "30 For 30" on Ben Wilson. Shameless plug and cross promotion aside, considering the fact ESPN & ABC7 are units of the Walt Disney Company, Goudie looked a lot younger in this documentary than he does now.

Just finished it. Really good.

That he had to wait that long without being operated on was staggering thinking about in today's terms.

And there was a Kenny McReynolds sighting.

Watching this now and really enjoying it.

He reminds me a little of Kevin Durant.

Shame we never got to see him in the NBA

I enjoyed it as much as you can watching the story of a promising life snuffed out. I found it very interesting
they got the point of view of the shooter at the end. I remember playing summer league ball
against a lot of CPS schools. We usually got our asses handed to us but it was great competition. Would
have loved to see the Flying Illini with him on the club. He would have been an upperclassman at that
point.

Conventional wisdom at the time was that he was signed, sealed, and delivered for DePaul.

Yeah I enjoyed the story of the shooter as well. I am glad they included that part. Guy has had a tough go of it, but good he has made something of his life and is using his experiences to help out others.

How often have we seen top players in the country as high school kids amount to nothing as pros? Len Bias had a proving ground in the top conference in college basketball but even for him there was no promise of success.

Nothing. It didn't change the lives of his friends and family. It didn't change our city's violence problem. It certainly didn't change the vomitous existence of the basketball street pimp industry.

The only discernable changes I could see from the incident were the way the city handles trauma care (and that was due more to a seven figure settlement than the actual shooting) and the life of the shooter.

The shooter was the only one who seems to have matured from the incident.

true...for every Brandon Paul and Derrick Rose there is a Jereme Richmond and Ronnie Fields.

Just seemed to me like Benji was the goods. It's weird, I didn't remember this story until I saw the mug shots.

He had an interesting perspective. When Kenny Mc Reynolds finds the exploitation of a young basketball player distasteful, it must be really bad.

Luckily Jesse Jackson was there to provide a shield from the media.

Did Wilson's mom really become a social activist after the event. It seemed to me she stuck around until her suit settled and then left for Mississippi. I don't blame her. I don't think I would recover from my child being killed.

There is a player every year who is the goods. The makeup people did a great job of hiding Sonny Vaccaro's horns and tail.

Jackson made my stomach turn in that deal. He is such an attention whore.

Yeah said she left in 87 I think after Washington died.

The last scene where his friends were dreaming of the lost possibility of being his professional enterouge was striking. There were almost 700 murders in the city that year. I doubt any of them produced the extended emoting.

Yeah good points. I guess the friends part didn't bother me as much because that is just reality of the world. They were at least his friends and with him and his family before the event. Jackson just swoops in any time he can get some attention and make it seem like he is some long lost family friend.
