ESPN replayed this night for obvious reasons. I thought it was another great edition to this series. I'm not sure it really gave a good national perspective of that period in time. Ultimately, I do think you have to look at the group as underwhelming. I remember it being apparent that they were ready for a breakup before the NCAA tournament of the second year.

Was Michigan football good during those years. They described the increase in sales during the two years the group was there but even at basketball height a great football team will be far more significant than a great basketball team at the school.

I always hated Rose. I thought he was a big talker who rarely backed it up with production. He talked and then hid behind Webber because he was a noodle armed chihuhua who would get his teeth knocked down his throat if it ever became physical. I thought he came off well.

It seems like every single time Webber had an opportunity to prove his character, he has made bad choices, and continues to do so. He always seemed like a guy with no self identity to me, like he was playing a role rather than ever being genuine. I wish he had agreed to participate in the doc. I would have liked to see his opinions of Laettner given his backround.

You simply cannot complain about people saying racist things when you, on TV and at almost 40 years old, are calling people uncle toms.

There is a school of thought that Rose was indirectly responsible for the timeout Webber called.

Rose had a couple turnovers before that and was running from the ball during that whole play. Not a good move for a PG. That's why the Power forward/Center had to bring the ball up and had no one to pass it to when he predictably got trapped.

This is a really good observation. Webber is kind of a cipher to me in my admittedly spotty following of the NBA. I couldn't never get behind him as a Hall of Famer because he never transcended the game to me. He compiled his stats, played a long time, had good teams, but he never seemed larger than life.

That's weak though. Rose should have come got the ball, but Webber has to know the game situation there.

The thing about the timeout that gets overlooked is that he tried to call it immediately after gettting the rebound under UNC's basket, then he traveled then he dribbled into a corner. He was ready to call that timeout, on his own without hearing any prodding and was saved by a sympathetic official. Then, when they finally did give him the timeout 10 seconds later he immediately blamed the bench.

look at the 14 second mark. He's trying to make a T and then pulls back for some reason. I think he thought the better move was to get it over the line to call it, but he already had his mind made up that a timeout was going to be called.

Absolutely. Webber is to blame.

But if you were just looking at Jalen Rose individually that part is bad.

Did Weber ever get accused of throwing that game for his bookmaker friend who he owed $280K?

Speaking of Webber, he wants nothing to do with a Fab Five reunion tonight at the NCAA Championship Game in Atlanta. I wonder why...

Well some owe the bookies, and some current Illini recruit's dad is still waiting on his promised Corvette. (Just like an officer of the 1st National Bk of Chgo had an apt. @ Lake Point Tower where DePaul players could pick up what they needed in the 80's)

What's your point?

I love that when someone throws a grenade at RR, he always picks that one up and then pulls the pins on 3 others and just starts whipping them around in all directions.

In fairness, I only threw two grenades. Carefully aimed.

Dolphin threw the first one. :P

I'd be fine with going back to the days of paying off players at De Paul if that actually ever happened. I'd be more than happy for a return of the days of Booth and Kleinschmidt at this point.

Don't worry...Chris Collins is going to make Chicago College basketball relevant once again. He will transcend all...
UIC, Loyola, NU, and Illini final four in 2019.

this is very astute. and i think this was one of the reasons i didn't like him coming to the sixers, besides almost always going 7/22 every night. i think he was afraid of himself in a lot of ways, and still is.

Thanks to WGN, they didn't even have to pay much.

But I too wish those days would return, I'm still a fan
