20 years ago this week the final episode of The Wonder Years aired on ABC. This was probably one of my
favorite shows of all time and I have always been disappointed that it isn't available for purchase on DVD
due to all of the great music they used during the original episodes. Because of licensing, there has never been
an agreement made to compensate the artists and get the show distributed. My brother told me that all
the episodes are available on NetFlix, which I don't have. I purchased a bootlegged box set from a guy in
Canada about 10 years ago and the quality is suspect, not to mention one of my dogs chewed up one disc.
Still enjoyable to watch every once in a long while. Anyway if you haven't seen the show or maybe if you
haven't seen it in a while and have NetFlix, I highly recommend you giving it a watch for old times sake
this week.

I bought the official soundtrack for the series which came on a 5 disc cd set which included a lot of the Motown
hits as well as all of that kind of mood music that you are describing. Good stuff. I'd be happy to burn it for you
if you have any interest in having it.

Are sisters in real life. They were the two finalists to play Winnie on the show.

I had no idea they were sisters. Becky Slater was a good character. I went out with some Becky Slater types
in junior high school.

i can even tell you that ABC family's version is truncated. on the 2007 summer broadcast from ion television they were the full episodes. i believe when it landed on the hub it was the same version as the ABC family episodes.

that show was simply one of the best written television shows of all time. the last season started to fall apart a bit and it was just odd seeing fred savage awkwardly mutate into a teenager. but the series finale was excellent. even though the show was technically canceled.

They tend to truncate shows to fit in more ads. In the case of ABC Family, just to promote their other shows.

When I watched Seinfeld reruns all the time I noticed on different airings they would edit different portions out of each episode. Sometimes it was the cold open, sometimes it was the credits scene. But each time it would be a different scene.

to be fair, ION didn't have much to advertise...except native american sleeping potions, apparently. and hoverounds.

I never really got the love affair with this show.

Guess I missed out.

The Wonder Years is one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Great writing & production.

The Wonder Years was one of the few shows with a child protagonist that had mainstream success. It was successful because Fred Savage was one of the best child actors ever to have his own show. The show appealed to kids who were growing up in the 80s but also older adults who were in junior high in the 60s. The narrator, Daniel Stern, sort of bridged the gap between the different audiences. Because typically your 35 to 50 audience is not going to be interested in a show about kids growing up.

It would have been nice for Kevin to finish high school, but in a lot of ways they were running out of steam. When Kevin had other friends other than Paul such as Jeff, Randy and Chuck the show suffered. Also a big element of the show was Kevin and his dad and Kevin and Winnie. Not to spoil the ending for those who haven't watched it, but it could have ended better.

By the end when Kevin's friends not named Paul started showing up, it was kinda over for me.
