Really good movie with plenty of twists. Obviously the "tricks" the magicians pull off are great, but the relationships between charachters is especially good and a key to why the illusions they choose are chosen. The kid from Social Network does a good job here too. He plays the smarmy superior ass really well again here.

heard good things but i don't think i'll have time to check it out. and movies revolving around magic have sort of a built in predictability to them. not to mention that they give away their sleight of hand since you already know you're watching a movie. and there's usually trickery involved in that inherently.

after seeing "the illusionist" i think i've seen enough.

Very different kind of movie. This has stories behind the story and it's not really so much about the illusions. The actors are exceptional and the twists are good. I doubt you will find it real predictable.

Okay, you asked for it. Mark Ruffalo who plays the detective investigating the 4 horsemen (name of the 4 magicians) for the money taken from a bank and out of the account of their "Benefactor's" bank account, turns out to be the guy in charge. His Father was a famed magician who died in a stunt due to a bad safe. He was locked in a safe that was plunged into a river, but due to the use of inferior steel by the safe manufacturer, the steel bent upon hitting the rivers bottom and he could not open the safe and died. The safe they break into and steal 3.2 million euros from, is the same company that made the safe his Father died in. Also, the charachter (Michael Caine) that they liberate millions from, is the guy who owned the insurance company that would not pay off a claim after Ruffalo's Father died. He also gets even with Morgan Freeman by framing him for stealing millions, because he had written articles critical of his Father, detailing how his elaborate illusions were played out. This caused him to attempt the escape from the safe, so as to do a stunt that would impress the public.
