Much like the first one, this one really tows the line and wants to have it both ways. It seems like whenever it crosses the line into silly cartoonish ultraviolence it starts talking about the real world. Well, in this movie...the consequences and the real world don't really add up to much.
It's still fun fodder but it left me a little less satisfied than the first. This is actually more about Hit Girl than it is about Kick Ass, but the subplot of her becoming a cheerleading guydorker felt like they were trying to mash "Mean Girls" into a superhero movie and it didn't really fit.
However...the hot blond bitch is...fucking...so hot. And while the gratuitous and completely unnecessary "dance" number wedged in the middle of this psychoviolent movie just soaks of indulgence...I...can't really complain.
There are some really weird satiric moments in the movie too. It just never really finds its tone. "Kick Ass" was fun if a little overviolent and sends a mixed message.
This absolutely revels in its audacity. Kind of like a teenager...and I guess in some circles, that works. But for me, I just didn't enjoy this one as much.
And there wasn't enough Jim Carrey.
