Dietrich was a great character. All of them were, really. Another reason you could never have a show like that today is that it's basically a videotaped play: the only real scenery is their office. The closest thing we've had since then is, of course, The Office, but even they went on wacky adventures.

I was kind of bummed when Steve Landesberg died. Great theme song too.

You're right. Only once or twice they went to Barney's home.

Never watched it but I thought Steve Landesburg was a great stand-up comic. His routine wasn't PC as he openly mocked Gays. You know what , so did George Carlin before the Hippie thing kicked in.

Great show! One of the best episodes was when they were all high after unknowingly eating brownies baked with pot. I don't remember the exact storyline but somehow a batch of the brownies made it into the precinct's coffee area and they were all hilarious tripping... especially Jack Soo.

I loved the one with the guy who claimed to be a Werewolf. He had Jack Soo freaking out.

You would enjoy it!

I agree it looks lame, would never be a FOX show....as I am not sure how they would find 3 seconds of wacky stuff to show during an NFL game as a promo, but it is a great show. Asian guy busting on the Polish guy, Black guy busting on the mexican guy (venus fly trap from WKRP and Julio from Sanford and Son) If liked Archie Bunker and Sanford, its right there

I know they all look alike but Ron Glass never did comedy with Dreesen .

To be fair, Ron Glass really does look like Tim Reid.

It was great when his character wrote Blood on the Badge and he started strutting around the precinct like he was Hemingway. Even something small like referring to his book as "BOB" was funny.

 Gregory Sierra's character in both shows was Puerto Rican. Not sure what nationality he was in Laurence Fishburne's acting tour de force Deep Cover.

Gregory Sierra is the same guy who played the original lieutenant in the pilot of Miami Vice. I think he lasted two episodes and was killed off? Then Castillo was in charge. (Edward James Olmos)

Sierra wasn't pockmarked enough for the producers of Miami Vice.

Great show! Great ensemble cast!

The pot brownie episode is classic. Jack Soo banging his leg on the floor because it went numb. He was also great in a few M*A*S*H episodes.

After Barney Miller, Ron Glass and Demond Wilson (Lamont from Sanford and Son) did a short-lived remake of The Odd Couple TV show. Always liked both of them.
