Phony until the end.

When saying good-bye, he pretended to choke up, but there were no tears. It's almost like he felt he had to fake emotion and hoped the tears would come. They didn't. So he kind of looked like a fool.

You knew he was faking, cuz he was choked using Johny Carson's "I bid you a heart-felt adieu", then he quickly snapped into normal sounding Jay to introduce Garth Brooks to sing him off.

Just reading some of the reaction to Jay's last show, it's been pointed out that Jay screwed up Johny's line.

Johny said, "I bid you a very heartfelt good night."

Jay quoted him as saying "I bid you a heartfelt adieu."

He prepared his good by speech. You'd think he'd actually get Johny's quote right.

I watched it. I thought Billy Crystal was over the top schmaltzy as he usually is.
The guy thinks he is the reincarnation of George Burns, who I never thought was that funny.
I hate Garth Brooks. He is another phony. That dumb song where all these "surprise" guests came out.
very dumb and not entertaining at all. Kind of describes what the Tonight Show became under Leno.

I thought his closing comments were classy and heartfelt. Especially talking about how he lost his parents in the first 2 years of the show, then his brother.

I know I'm in the extreme minority given all the Leno hate on this board, but give the man his due. 22 years succeeding Johnny Carson, number 1 in the ratings, and he did it all without being the egomaniac some of these guys are like Letterman. Plus 1 wife which says alot.

An American Success story indeed.

 :salut:

I didn't think his closing remarks were phony.

But I hate the fact that he had to say that he & Dave "didn't hate" each other. Just stop, Jay. Just stop.

He has. Until they mess up the next replacement host and Jay gets involved/is asked back, again.

I'm sure he doesn't have any bad feelings against Dave. Jay got the Tonight Show, and won the ratings war when Letterman bolted to CBS. Jay would have no reason to hate him. Letterman on the other hand...

I would think Jay has got to be tired of Dave shitting on him.
