If you're pretty familiar with Hicks, you're gonna see a lot of his material covered here, since he was really only around for a pretty short time. Besides that though, this documentary does a great job of illustrating the bullshit that infects our society, entertainment industry, government regulations, etc. Just a fantastic documentary. You can find it for free on Youtube and several other websites. I highly recommend it. I have Hicks second only to Carlin on all time standup comic lists.

You can add some other names to the mix but this would be a pretty solid start to any GOAT list.

I think you might be thinking of someone else. Hicks died before OJ murdered anybody.

Hicks is definitely top 5 and he's number one on the whole "affect the world with your art" rankings

Dennis Leary stole his whole act, btw

Yep. Loved when someone asked him why he quit smoking and he said something like "I just wanted to see if Leary would too"

how can we be sure? they say by the time someone is busted for a crime they've likely committed the same crime and gotten away with it many times before.

Doug Stanhope is a bit Hick-ish, only druggier.

Wonder how Hicks stuff holds up. Eddie Murphy's standup concerts are still a great watch. Watched a documentary with footage of Lenny Bruce doing standup and it wasn't funny at all.

"I have a scoop for you. I stole his [Leary's] act. I camouflaged it with punchlines, and, to really throw people off, I did it before he did.

I think there was a point where Bruce just made political/conspiracy theory rants. It seems he wasn't interested in making jokes anymore.

I never was a Bruce fan. Carlin, Pryor, Murphy, Rickles & Carson are my top 5.
