This show is like those Resturaunt:impossible shows except it's with bars.

Learned 2 things:

If you ever get served from a keg and the beer has too much head,the temp is too high which causes the carbon dioxide to shoot up top causing the foam. A perfect temp is like below 35 degrees.

Next time your in a bar,ask the bartender to clean out the tap with a napkin. If it's not done on a regular basis,you get a smelly yeast buildup causing the beer to taste like ass.

They did The Abbey at Elston and Grace last year. I watched some of it. I don't think it took.

I thought it was interesting how much the temperature of the keg affected the percent that was usable beer -- they were going from 97% to 85% depending on temp, and that equals quite a bit to the bottom line.

It was very similar to the Restaurant Impossible or Kitchen Nightmares, but a little more focused on the bar. I took a look at some of their past projects, and they had several out of business ones like those two shows did.

Not captivating TV but kind of interesting if you have stuff to do during the commercial or DVR it.

I don't think it ever really takes. You can change a bar but it's a lot tougher to change the people who are running it.

I watched two minutes of whatever the Food Network show that's similar to this and felt the same way. The fat guy with the Jersey accent. That was some awful television.

Despite having tried to watch S01E01 of said show, didn't know the Abbey had been on Bar Rescue 2 episodes later (1 episode was plenty).

I had noticed that I wasn't trekking up to Grace and Elston for kowality rawk shows as often, or even at all really.

Super Furry Animals brought their own sound and CEX to the Abbey on their RATW tour.

GSY!BE and Black Dice did the same when they shared a bill at the Abbey.

Many Tweedy/Wilco variations at the Abbey.

The Abbey was basically Bloodshot Records' (Waco Bros, Robbie Fulks) home venue for several years.

Stopped in a couple times on Sunday nights recently for their cheap Guinness and Jameson special. Some folky Irish thing playing in the pub/restaurant to a table of friends and maybe a dude at the bar.

The bartender and waitress were so bored they were playing some card game that they let us join in on.

They mentioned that the Saturday night show in the concert room the night before had taken in like $23 at the door.

Only good thing they'd had recently was the Supertroopers/Broken Lizard guys had stopped there on some sort of tour.

Felt bad for them getting shut out for the weekend and left em each a twenty as tip. Went back a few weeks later and the one waitress was quitting the Abbey to work at a grocery store.

Food was better than I'd remembered, tho.

This show is very entertaining regardless of how scripted it might be

Once the need for funding the IRA dwindled, the need for funding the guy who funded the IRA disappeared, so the Abbey doesn't have the same loyal core.

I went there for an Irish breakfast. The place smelled like piss from the night before and the silverware looked like it was washed in it.

The Abbey used to book some great shows. Saw a couple Tweedy solo shows there as well as the Gourds, Luna, Pinetop 7, Gary Louris and some other stuff. Now it looks like their calendar features a bunch of cover acts, magic and comedy? Evidently management has "suburbanized" the club's entertainment schedule to match the corporate sheen of its new look. It seems like the Abbey has become the kind of soulless, antiseptic place IMU might enjoy as opposed to being the offbeat, atmospheric venue it once was.

I've seen The Tossers and Mr. Lif at the Abbey (Separate shows, lol). They used to book some decent acts there. Andy Gerber put me in a headlock during The Tossers show, and dragged me around the pit.

I live a block away, only been once....last year we had my bachelor party in their basement "kill room". One stripper gave me a concussion and another one squirted on me. No bar can recover from that..

My in-laws were vacationing in Arizona, an went to that bar. They talked with the owner, and got the lowdown on how a bar is selected. You basically send in your "audition tape" of why your bar should be featured, and they encourage you to act as ridiculous as possible.

I have some friends in LA that are actors. One of them auditioned for the role of the "irritated bartender" for one of those reality shows.

I think every one of them is complete BS. Still Bar Rescue is entertaining.
