Very Good.
Not a huge Damon fan but great performance.

It had its moments, but in the end it seemed quite predictable and yet farfetched. Damon was solid, and I liked some of the "solutions" to problems.

A guy walking in red dirt for 2 hours?

I'll pass.

I just watched the Mat Mcconaughey space movie, Interstellar.

That kind of filled my quota.

I thought it was great, but the ending blew.

Thought it was well done, but not quite as compelling as Apollo 13.

Great movie, spectacular.

Not sure what peoples issues are with the ending? Is it because he....... I thought the ending was great with plenty of drama + tension without resorting to garbage.

Well directed, well acted and well paced. Good cast too. Sean Bean doesn't die a horrible death.

Ridley Scott still got it. This movie makes me have a glimmer of hope for the follow up to Prometheus or Alien: Paradise Lost or whatever.

Thoroughly entertaining film and a great performance by Matt Damon. Scott is excellent at pacing and moving the story along. There is something missing in the narrative, which i blame on one of the luckiest bad writers in the industry right now, drew goddard. he has no ability to give depth to a character. so for damon to have such an impact and pretty much carry the whole film on his back, it says even more about him as an actor. typically in an "isolation man" movie like "cast away", "i am legend", and especially "silent running" (which bears resemblance to the film), you get a sense of their detachment from humankind and a sense of their loss. but damon is far too busy to have that reflection, even in his reflective moments. it's really more about him trying to keep himself alive. it would've been nice to have a scene to show how much loss he had to have felt throughout his ordeal. other than that, it is a solid film. the climax is intense even though you know how it'll all end...the conclusion may seem unrealistic but so is the idea that a guy can survive on mars especially after going through the storm they endure in the beginning. i could suspend disbelief enough.

damon and scott pull this one off, and my guy chiwitel is always appealing. it's certainly worth seeing, especially on the big screen.

What ever gets 4 smileys?

Even Ebert gave Speed 4-stars.

i gave "whiplash" 4. ebert was giving out 4 stars like nick was giving out wings. he was just happy to be alive and writing, i think.

but i will say i was impressed with the "zork 2" and "leather goddesses of phobos" references in "the martian". if those came from goddard and not the novel, i will give goddard some geek cred for that.

Saw this over the weekend. I thought it was a pretty solid movie. I'd have to agree with W_Z in that the Damon character doesn't really have
much depth written in but I think I found myself caring about him just because of his sheer will and determination not to give up. The ending
was pretty far fetched but I think they did their best to make it believable. It was an enjoyable 2 hours overall.
