I watched the first two episodes. There's an annoying tendency, getting to be a trope, in modern sitcoms that use what i call "voice of reason" to supplement a joke. Someone will say something clearly satiric or ironic, self aware, followed by a reaction or response by another character that calls out what the person said. Something like "Uh, yeah?", a high-five, or "Really? Really." It's like a character is trying to have the voice of the audience. This is probably the worst sin committed by comedy writing this generation, because it undermines the joke completely. If you need an example, just watch any. fucking. sitcom. on TV. they all do this.

another thing, i have to get this out of the way...every goddamn teen/child is not only unfunny, they are trying so hard to be funny that it is like nails on the chalkboard. like they all want to sound like they came out of a Discom. This definitely plagued "the michael j. fox show"; everyone is trying to be manny on "modern family" and he *sucks*.

Anyway, with that said...i did laugh a lot throughout the first two episodes. for two reasons - fred savage and especially rob lowe. this seems to be a role lowe has wanted to play for a long time...reminds me of him in "wayne's world". only here, he pours it on. it's a really good performance. but i don't think the writers know what to do outside of making fun of lawyer shows while also awkwardly trying to be one itself. it seems like the show wants to be saitre *and* a legit family comedy and it's going to have to make up its mind what it is going to be by the end of the 1st season or i think people will give up on it because it can't find a consistent tone. i would prefer it be the former over the latter; the latter, i'll probably stop watching. this isn't working as well as a straight up "comedy" show. lowe is just too over the top.

I haven't watched it, but it will be fine.

The general sitcom watching populace expects less than you do.

the "michael j. fox show" didn't make it, and it had similar issues.

Yeah...but that show started off a bit shaky.

Did you miss the joke? Maybe that is why modern sitcoms have characters confirm jokes.

WZ,you forgot to mention the great William Devane as the dad. I enjoyed the first episode just like I did the show previous,Grandfathered. I thought the 2nd episodes of both new Fox sitcoms dropped off dramatically. It's the premise which can not be sustained for a whole season.

I like the actors in both shows, but they need "stuff" to do. I'll still watch while I DVR the Flash.

well, i like william devane but he wasn't given much to do either. really it's lowe and savage and that's the strength of the show.

apparently, not doing so well in the ratings.

kinda surprised about "the muppets".

I thought the first two eps were pretty good, but I'm not surprised to see it doing poorly in the ratings. When was the last time a non Sunday FOX sitcom did anything??? I honestly can't think of a single one.
