Up now on Netflix.

First episode was pretty good. Not sure about Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones but so far so good.

i've seen the first two episodes. So far its really good. The guy they got for Luke Cage is fantastic.

They've made a lot of changes from the comic and I think it works really well. Such as having Jessica and Luke meet for the first time on the show as opposed to in the comics where they go way back.

The reviews are great as well. So far I'm liking this a lot more than Daredevil which, in all honesty, I didn't really care for that much.

Yeah it's worked really well.

Luke Cage is indeed fantastic.

6 episodes in and I've enjoyed David Tennant as The Purple Man.

want to check this out; was a big fan of the "alias" comic books. but it's been so long since i've read them. it was weird because it was out at the same time the tv show "alias", that had no relation, was on. i remember wondering if anybody got confused by that.

true dat. episode 8 is pretty damn great as well. 4 more to go for me. loving it.

i will say this though: how many neofeminists are going to jump on the "purple man made me do it" bandwagon for rape charges? he said "i know you want me to have sex with you", she said yes, but she was "under an influence". meaning drunk sex = rape.

thank god i'm not in college anymore...

Arthur Chu believes it's an extended metaphor for Gamergate:

http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/tele ... ingle.html

Quote:
The frightening thing about Kilgrave, after all, is we see people who act like him and get away with it all the time in the real world despite the real world not including genetic mutants with psychic abilities. People who, despite their failure to emit infectious brain-altering viral particles into the air around them, are able to make other people do horrible things. A guy who crowdsources sexual assault by making random calls to fast food restaurants pretending to be a cop and instructing managers to strip-search female employees. One deranged troll—who went to prison and got a swastika tattooed on his chest—can flood a woman’s inbox with death threats by making up blatant, obvious lies that an angry misogynist mob wants to believe.

And, of course, in the case that feels most eerily parallel to Kilgrave’s motivations in Jessica Jones, a vengeful ex can systematically destroy a game developer’s professional reputation, social network, and overall sense of safety by writing a blog post designed to push all the buttons that make gamers angry, sparking a massive culture war that’s still going a year later. As Rowan Kaiser put it in an early review of the first two episodes of Jessica Jones, it would be fair to describe Kilgrave as a “living, breathing harassment campaign.” He is a guy who sees the whole world as a game, himself as the player, and everyone else as nonplayer characters—and he is willing to try over and over again at the game until he wins.

yeah if you want to completely ignore the guilt she has of feeling responsible for her family's death, which happened long before she met kilgrave.

but of course that wouldn't fit the narrative.

Pretty fucking good.

The last 3 episodes had some rough moments, especially regarding Kilgrave and Jessica.

Another solid series.

Looking forward to Luke Cage next.

finished it tonight. it seems to me that the apex was reached in episode 10. i saw some critics call it their "red wedding", in which so much shit happens, it's almost like "how can they top this?" or how much more can you take?

the last 3 episodes are spotty, but i still overall really liked the series. i didn't care for the simpson character (doh!). i thought he was really oddly written and for someone who seemed to be on/off and hero/villain, the actor just didn't pull me in. he did remind me of a cross between jeff bridges and william hurt though.

rosario dawson was a nice added bonus in the finale.

i think the highlight of the show for me was when kilgrave bought jessica's childhood home and had her stay there. it was a very strange kind of prison. it's home, but it's a reminder of what she lost. it's also the last place of innocence for her, which was shattered. and with kilgrave, it's nothing but a living hell for her.

i like that there's a sunny holiday feel where kilgrave is living. the posh apartment, the house...it's a nice contradiction.

probably the strongest tennant has been in a while as an actor, too. he got to do evil doctor, with a little bit more anguish to it. great stuff.

luke cage is the man.

Also finished this a couple days ago. What a fantastic show this was! As one review said, it was more of a 13 hour movie than a tv series. Outstanding characters and actors. If there's been a better superhero villain than Killgrave I would be shocked. He was equal parts charisma and terrifying.

Loved Jessica as the main character. Never seen such a fascinating hero. She was more broken than any other hero we've ever seen, a victim of serious abuse and rape at the hands of KIllGrave. It was refreshing to see a hero fighting to save her own life rather than yet another pointless monologue about "saving the city".

SIDENOTE: Try this drinking game...watch an episode of Gothan, Arrow, Flash or any other super hero drama and take a shot everytime someone says the word "city". You'll be dead within 20 minutes.

Season 2 dropped yesterday.

No idea about the plot or anything but I enjoyed the first season so high hopes for this one.

I'm guessing they continue to unwrap her past and how she came to possess her strength.

now that it's all wrapped up, and i've watched the 3rd season completely, the show had real promise and a great first season. but after that, it was very uneven.

i didn't like much of the second season; i thought the subplot about trish wanting to become powerful was OK but i just didn't really care much for the character. the villain should have had a lot more strength than what wound up happening. and jessica's droning narration started to wear on me.

ditto the 3rd season, although the villain was much stronger. there were some nice psychological elements. but it took *4* episodes before it started getting good. and talk about stretching and padding the run time...there was an episode that was almost 40% just a repeat (literally) of the previous episode.

the acting and production values were all good, and trish's character was a little more ironed out in this season. but i still just don't find her that interesting. malcolm was always my favorite secondary character, but even his subplot seemed a bit unfulfilling.

best and surprising character was gillian, jessica's new receptionist. yes, it's "good for the narrative", yes it's progressive as hell. but she's a good actor and should be given kudos for that. great character too.

so if you're a fan of "jessica jones", the third season is still worth watching. but there are a lot of dead spots to endure.

I stopped watching these Marvel shows a while ago, but always liked the JJ series. I decided to jump back in and started up Daredevil season 3 last week.

The main issue with these shows is they are way too fucking long. 13 episodes, most over 50 minutes is ridiculous and IMO the reason these shows never succeeded.

So, what I do is fast forward through at least 20 minutes of every episode if not more. If a scene is slow or not going anywhere or going somewhere I can already predict I just fastforward. When watching DD I always fast forward through any scene that involves Karen or Foggy. Also fast forward through a lot of Matt Murdoc scenes if they are boring. I've basically succeeded in reducing these series from 13 eps to about 8.

After I finsh DD3 I'm gonna do Punishser season 2 and then wrap it up with JJ3. A big fuck no on Luke Cage season 2 and any of the Iron fist garbage.

4 years ago seems like 20 with all the Marvel Movies and TV shows. The Netflix shows all looked pretty promising back then. In retrospect it might have been more down to getting good actors to play the baddies with Tennant and D'Onofrio, and not so much being well written, but that's hardly a unique criticism with comic properties. Yeah, the series are all too long, even the best ones. Hopefully Disney figures something out with the new ones they're putting out.

i have a friend who just swears up and down by DD and i haven't pulled the trigger to watch it. the bloated run-times are the biggest detractor for me. i only put up with it with JJ because i liked the series enough to endure it.

i tried with "luke cage" and didn't get too far, and i love that character. i don't think i can do DD. i'm not even bothering with the other ones.

Daredevil is worth a watch. It suffers from the stuff you guys talked about already, but it at least is entertaining and has solid villain(s).

If these shows were 8 episode seasons, they'd be great.

All the Netflix Marvel shows are just people fighting in hallways, right? They should just have one "Fighting in a Hallway" show and be done with it. It would be cheaper.
