Looks rather TOS-y too. Kirk on some planet with styrofoam rocks that has a weird political system. At least as much as the trailer shows. Hopefully there's more Karl Urban.

I imagine the movie will be fine.

That trailer is repulsive dogshit.

I am a huge Star Trek fan but there is nothing in that trailer that makes me want to see this film.

But, yes, I will see it. I mean - I generally liked the first 2 films.

But, I feel like more and more they are drifting away from Star Trek and making Die Hard in Space movies or Jason Bourne - Fleet Commander.

Give me some social issues to think about with a new perspective, JJ. That's when ST was at its best.

neither "insurrection" nor "nemesis" did this. i wouldn't be surprised if this one turns out to be "the weakest" but i'm sure it'll still be palatable.

But that's what the franchise is missing, right?

Wrath is everybody's classic ST. Do you remember that incredible action sequence in Wrath?

Me neither.

But, KHAAANNNN and the needs of the many and his was the most human? Get the fuck out of here.

Seriously, everybody get the fuck out of here. I need a minute.

OK. You can return.

That stuff is the sweet spot but you can't recreate that because those relationships were decades in the making.

i'd like to think the series is building to something thoughtful. but it won't come from abrams. he likes the action route. i wanted to pen a script and put it up on blacklist (i have a few registered scripts there) but i'd be wasting my time, because i'm sure they all have inside people ready to be assigned the next few scripts already.

i wanted to have a scene between old kirk and new (but old kirk would be cloaked and not revealed), and i wanted Q to be the villain, with a young(er) Picard interwoven into the plot. it would've just been called Star Trek Continuum.

Since they've redone the entire timeline, I'm sure the Borg will be showing up in one of these movies eventually.
