Every team who is 9-1 is newsworthy. My point is that the story is no better than Tony Romo's or Drew Brees's and since they have never won a title that theirs is better.

Brett Farve had to overcome the fact that he underperformed.
Tony Romo had to overcome being an undrafted free agent from Eastern Illinois.
Drew Brees had to overcome almost losing his job to a drafted rookie, leading the Chargers to one of the best records in the league, and then being released to go to New Orleans and revitalize the team and the city.

It also is a good story, but I am not going to root for Brett Farve because he figured out how to be an NFL QB again.

Favre is a story because he remains one of the most popular players in league history and is having a near career year when pretty much everyone had written him off.
Romo is also a good story given that he did come from nowhere. However, he still has plenty of years left to win a Superbowl (& probably won't this year anyway) so that's less of a big deal.
As for Brees - he is a very good player, but he was never the story...the Saints as a team were given the Katrina tie-in. This year the team has been a major disappointment & Brees is at best an afterthought to the majority of football fans outside of New Orleans & West Lafayette. Until he starts to take his team regularly to the play-offs (twice in 6 yrs) & winning those games (1-2 record to date) he will remain in the shadows of the true superstars.

To say that Favre played like shit the past two years is simply not true and definitely an oversimplification. His interior line has been absolutely dogshit the last two years, and now that the young guys are starting to develop, he has time to throw the ball. Now that he has other guys around him besides Driver, the offense is becoming pretty dangerous. Its not a one man game, and Favre has been playing like it was the past couple years out of necessity. Its not a coincidence that his numbers and play drastically improved when they got an interior line, some more weapons around him, and the defense has matured into a very good unit.

The Packers are a huge story this year, like it or not, and they deserve to be. In almost any other season Favre would probably win MVP, and I think he deserves it this year also, but obviously I think its probably already been handed to Brady.

I dont think hes playing the best of his career, but maybe the smartest. Either way I couldnt come up with one valid point Rick posted that actually explains why this really shouldnt be a huge story.
