I remember Tom Waddle's first year with ESPN when he was not included in the lineup for the ESPN fantasy Football championship gathering. But not only has he been worked into the festivities now, but he along with Silvy and Sarah Spain, will play host to the event this year. Tickets are no longer available online, but can still be purchased on Saturday at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond Indiana where it will take place again this year. It's always been a very fun event and well attended in the past. But this year it has been reported that over one thousand people will participate! Should be a fun day.

I've got to admit Steve. If Darkside's year end awards had a "best unintentionally funny poster" you'd be the favorite. You seem so proud that you are buying a ticket to play a game that most people just do with friends and you'll be meeting celebrities like Sarah Spain and Tom Waddle while driving over an hour to do so from Burbank.

This is the kind of event that you don't tell anyone about and hope that no one you know sees you there. The only saving grace in that situation is that the person who sees you is just as guilty of being there.

I have no idea how it's possible, but whenever I hear Sarah Spain inject her mighty Cornell education into each and every meticulously crafted SportsCenter update I'm always stuck thinking "whoa, that chick has a nice rack"

You already have a thread on this, steve; viewtopic.php?f=27&t=60841

Do you plan to take your wife out to pasture for a 'fantsy' dinner afterwards?

First off, I do not have to purchase a ticket. I was gifted 4 of them by ESPN, so buying a ticket is not necessary. But as far as feeling reluctant to have anyone know I might attend such an event, thats not something I can relate to. If you enjoy Fantasy Football why would you hide that from anyone. It's like someone who likes a particular singer/musical group...who cares who else likes or dislikes the music? If you enjoy something that is not criminal or morally suspect, I see no reason to hide it from anyone. This event is a lot of fun. I have not missed one yet and look forward to this one on Saturday.

Yeah-I'm guessing she will get a lot of requests for photos. "The girls" cannot be missed as large as they are. I'm curious to see how well she drafts, assuming she is allowed a spot in the celebrity draft.

Referring to her as a celebrity in the loosest way possible...sort of like a Loop Rock Girl is a celebrity.

I didn't refer to her as a celebrity and the fact that she is not a regular on air host, but rather an update person is the reason for my questioning whether or not she will partake in the celebrity draft. With John Clayton, Matthew Berry, Stephania Bell, Jurko, Harry, Carmen, Waddle and Silvy pretty well assured of spots in the 10 team field, that only leaves 2 spots and there are others like J. Hood that have taken part in the past that may be chosen to take part in the draft rater than Sarah. But as much as she, along with waddle and Silvy are hosting the event, I think it's reasonable to believe she might get a spot in the field.

I can't explain why but that makes it so much more funny.

I think it's lame to drive to Indiana and play against a bunch of guys you don't know and meet radio personalities and then tell people about it. There is nothing wrong with fantasy football but this is a little too close to a dungeons and dragons tournament for me to think that other people think it's cool.

That's cool. I have the right to find it funny though. I could think of a lot of things that are more fun than sitting in a room with a bunch of guys I don't know picking players.

If tickets are no longer available online, then someone should alert ESPN as they are running ads to buy tickets every 15 minutes.

And if tickets are really no longer available, it's because ESPN has been "gifting" 40-50 pairs of tix to people at remotes.

How else would you get rid of the tickets?

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they gave away tix equalling two times capacity of the venue, in the hopes that they'd get it 3/4 full.

They are real and quite frankly they are huge. Actually a bit larger than I would think ideal.

I like Clayton too, although a LOT of his advice is awful. I remember the first year ESPN had this event in downtown Chicago and Clayton advised that Shaun Alexander was poised for a great rebound year and he was awful. Last year he sang the praises of Kevin Kolb who was replaced at QB by Michael Vick in Philadelphia and wasn't very good while healthy and playing. I enjoy all the speakers and think they all have information that is worthwhile though. I think matthew Berry is my personal favorite though. He knows his stuff and he's entertaining.

You are not some VIP for going to this thing. The way you act makes me glad Jurko hasn't paid off that stupid bet you made yet. And who the fuck are you emailing in telling him to bring you a gift certificate? You fucking jobber. If the deal was he pays for golf, then its on his terms. You don't get to demand he gives you a gift certificate so you can golf with your 2 friends you slimy pipsqueak.

So D & D is based on actual, real-life events? I'm as worried about dragons as the next guy, but that seems like a reach to me.

Maybe if there was a Hoculian figure who rolled a die to determine yardage or something...

I'm just a VIP in life baby. 8) As far as the wager goes, Jurko is bringing a gift certificate from one of the golf courses that is a sponsor of the station. It's a bit cheezy that he doesn't pay off the bet out of his own pocket, but I really don't care as long as I collect on the bet.

no it's not. look at the obsession and the fantasy aspect. you don't really own a football team, nor do you own a longsword killing dragons and fucking bar wenches. fantasy is fantasy. you following stats of players that aren't even part of a team you like makes you just as much of a geek as a guy who raids for hours and LARPs for days on end.

Fantasy Football is based upon one's ability to predict the level of performance they will get from real life football players and the scoring based upon the actual performance of those real life football players in their performance in actual football games. Apples and Oranges.

Thats a stupid thing to say. Where is there "role playing" in fantasy Football?? It's all about drafting quality players and then deciding upon the right players to insert into your lineup, based upon the opposing defenses your players are up against. It's true of course that one doesn't play in the games, nor coach players to a superior/inferior performance. But there is a fair amount of thought that goes into sizing up the defenses and the liklihood of a strong performance by various players. Many times it's not just the players on a guys roster that determines an outcome of a Fantasy Football matchup, but the players selected to be in the lineup.
