When it comes to sports radio in Chicago, “Waddle & Silvy” are in a league of their own.

Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman, now in their 10th year together as the afternoon duo on ESPN Radio WMVP AM 1000, dominated the sports/talk genre in Nielsen Audio ratings released Monday.

For the survey period from October 8 to November 4, Waddle & Silvy not only turned up in the top 10 among all afternoon shows but finished first among men between 25 and 54, the station’s money-making target demographic.

“Waddle has really turned into the Johnny Morris of this era,” program director Adam Delevitt said in comparing his No. 1 star to another former Chicago Bear who reigned as the city’s most popular sportscaster for decades.

Delevitt also pointed to strong ratings for midday host David Kaplan just two months after he joined ESPN 1000 from Tribune Media news/talk WGN AM 720, where he’d been a fixture for 20 years.

The only sports talkers among the top 10 morning shows were Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley of CBS Radio WSCR AM 670, who ranked second among men between 25 and 54.

As expected, Chicago Cubs postseason play helped boost ratings for CBS Radio WBBM AM 780, but not enough for the all-news station to overtake iHeartMedia urban adult-contemporary WVAZ FM 102.7 for the top spot overall. As of the December survey, according to Ron Gleason, director of news and programming, WBBM Newsradio will return to a full-time simulcast with WCFS FM 105.9, presumably putting the combo back on top decisively.

With the Cubs moving to The Score (replacing the less popular Chicago White Sox broadcasts), the competitive ratings picture could look a lot different this time next year.

Their show is a lot of not good, but hey I am listening now. I haven't been able to tolerate Bad & Badder for the better part of four years. It gave me CTE, and my shit turned into meatballs.

Not only are B&B's ratings down, but WMVP as a whole beat WSCR per Feder. I got into a discussion with Laurence Holmes over Facebook about a month ago. He told me the W&S ratings lead was a blip and a result of White Sox baseball (he actually said that). He told me to wait until there was a ratings period that didn't include Sox baseball. Well now we have one, and W&S have expanded their audience while B&B saw theirs shrink.

Dan Bernstein is 100% like PC Principal in South Park. He talks the talk about being so progressive, but then he'll turn around and put a man suffering severe mental incapacities on air to give movie reviews so that they can laugh at him and tweets about the boobs of various female reporters.

Just like the Cubs, Frank and I were a year early.

It is now happening exactly as we had foreseen.

Yeah, it may be a bit more vanilla, but the W&S show keeps me entertained enough, gives me enough chuckles, and moves along pretty well without getting all SJW, that I have not even strayed back over to B&B in the last 2 months.

The only 670 listening I do at this point is M&H, but sporadically.

Peeps considers the years he spent at MSFMB the Dark Ages. They don't count.

Maybe 2 or 3.

Who's counting at this point.

The moral of the story is we were right.

This is great news for those who have been hoping for changes at The Score. The station is old, stale and way too confrontational with both callers and between hosts. If Am1000 continues to beat 670 in the ratings, changes will come.

I can't listen to B&B for more than a few seconds and LOHO for more than 5 seconds.

Brutal radio.

Yup. For many many years, I had the radio tuned to AM670 from 7AM to midnight. I listened to every show while in the car or office. Now, I check in periodically but don't usually like what I hear so I listen to AM1000, AM890, Fox Sports Radio on AM1280, or podcasts.

 Just a cool guy that's been listening since Day 1 when most of you all were still on B&B's jock.

Yep. We were right on this, and we were right on Tiger. You all would be best served listening to more of what we say because when Peeps and I are in the same side of an issue, we are proven to be 100% correct eventually.

I think spmack, W_Z, doug-ep, myself, and maybe Spaulding have been listening to Silvy since 'Save The Music Saturdays' which goes back probably 12+ years now.

Is it that Waddle and Silvy have a great show, or Bernstein fucked it up?

Add them together and Kap and Co. should be on Mitch Rosens to do list.

Looking at it from the other side, if I'm ESPN I not only hold Kap to his contract but use him as the fulcrum to build upon. It doesn't take too much to see that by simply staying the course, and letting Bernstein be Bernstein, their audience will continue to grow as SCR loses listeners. Sports is the "toy department" of infotainment and so long as they don't lose that focus the listeners will make their preferences known. Many in the sports world express their opinions but very few devote hours and days flogging an issue irrespective of their listeners. SCR didn't grow by focusing on a niche audience and now that they've decided to focus on that audience they can only lose. Of the last 3 "new" voices brought in, two (Mac, Snapper) are gone and the third is showing that he can't draw or hold an audience. Yeah, Mitch would score a coup by getting Kap but I doubt ESPN is going go all knees up in letting that happen.

I've always liked Silvy, and the W&S show is more than I thought it would be- I liked Waddle and Kap, despite Kap, but I don't think Waddle was on his second career nearly as strong as he is now. Adding Kaplan as the lead-in brings even more listeners, it seems. He's alright, and maybe a little toned-down since GN. The experience at The Game was eye opening, no doubt.

I still prefer Dan Patrick after Mike and Mike, then Rich Eisen, then back to W/S. Our local station runs Nort in the morning slot and the HUGE show after Eisen, so the buttons are getting worn out pretty quickly switching back and forth.

The ratings are no surprise to me. I stopped listening to The Score when Mac left the station and had stopped listening to anything but Mac (and sometimes Mully and Hanley) a couple years ago. Bernstein was an asshole ( I assume he still is) , Boers was often uninformed and disinterested in many subjects a sports talk show host should be informed about, Guys like Lawrence Holmes, Matt Spiegal and Goff should all be nothing more than weekend or late night shifts. They do not belong on prime time shifts. The station has been pulling a Cubs strategy and has been tanking. Someone needs to tell them it doesn't help, as there is no draft in radio. Kap was a nice addition to ESPN. They need to get him a better cohost though. Nick Friedel is not good enough and is on too often. Kap needs a regular sidekick who is good. in a perfect world (for me) Mac would come back to ESPN and fill that role.

B&B are no longer behind.

This was likely just a temporary blip.
