I heard on the SCORE that WGN would only have 58 Cubs game on their network, I was just wondering if this is an economy thing or something else.

The Cubs own 1/4th of Comcast Sportsnet, so they make more money on their games that are on that channel.

The release of the Cubs broadcast schedule Thursday revealed a record-low 58 games being shown on WGN-Ch. 9.

But that number could increase, depending on six games that may be picked up by ESPN or Fox. If not, they will air on WGN.

The Cubs will also air eight games on WCIU-Ch. 26, including the season opener in Atlanta on April 5. Despite the slight decrease, the 64 scheduled games on over-the-air TV are reportedly the most of any major league team.

Douchebag, WGN's CW9 doesn't just want to preempt "One Tree Hill". I thought I've mentioned this before, but if not, it bears repeating. Bosses of the CW Network, much like their predecessor the WB Network, absolutely hate it when their shows are pre-empted in Chicago by sports that WGN carries. They feel their ratings are hurt when the nation's #3 market isn't airing their shows as scheduled like everywhere else. That also explains why WCIU 26 The U is still a player when it comes to airing sports during the week, even if it means their own shows are pre-empted to accommodate the Cubs, White Sox & Bulls that WGN still produces. In plain English, it's a sign of the times that WGN won't be airing as many Cub or Sox games as they used to have.
