Could the coach of NBC Sports' "Football Night in America" be ready to step away from the network? According to a report by Newsday's Neil Best, there's a possibility that former Indianapolis Colts' head coach Tony Dungy could be leaving NBC. The report suggests that "family matters might pull him away from the show for a year or two" despite NBC Sports' bosses wanting to keep Dungy around.

Dungy, who serves as a national spokesman for All Pro Dad, has a son who is redshirting this year at the University of Oregon but could play in the 2011 season. The issue of constantly commuting between watching his son play football in Eugene and providing analysis at NBC's Rockefeller Center studio with Dan Patrick & Rodney Harrison in New York before the network's "Sunday Night Football" game could be a problem.

Dungy raised eyebrows last month with his outspoken criticism of New York Jets' head coach Rex Ryan's use of profanity on the first episode of HBO Sports' "Hard Knocks" & also telling Reggie Bush, now with the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, to return the 2005 Heisman Trophy in the wake of the USC football scandal.

The Pastor is leaving? How sad. His moral guidance will be missed.

Dungy's keeping the door open that something can be worked out. In the meantime, chew on this. There's a reason why James Brown's now with CBS Sports hosting "The NFL Today" Sundays & "Inside the NFL" Wednesdays on Showtime. J.B. grew tired of the constant commuting between his home in Washington, DC & Los Angeles, where he hosted "FOX NFL Sunday" until a few years ago. It's not as far to travel from New York & NFL Films in Mt. Laurel, NJ & Washington...
