Fans, the world of sports television has lost a true icon. Jim McKay, the legendary voice of ABC Sports for over 4 decades, passed away at the age of 86 due to natural causes. He was the longtime host of ABC's "Wide World of Sports" and was the voice who was "Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport. The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat" in the opening sequence of every show, complete with video of that ski jumper who crashed. Jim also hosted ABC's exclusive coverage of 12 Winter & Summer Olympic games when his network had the American television rights to the global sports showcase, including ABC's coverage of the Israeli hostage tragedy that marred the Munich Summer Games in 1972. He was also a fixture at the racetrack, hosting ABC's coverage of thoroughbred horse racing's Triple Crown & had more than a passing interest in the "Sport of Kings", plus the British Open golf tournament. He even swung a golf ball over the Great Wall of China. He also won 13 Sports Emmy Awards in a legendary career. Jim was an icon in sports television, and he will never be forgotten.
