Fans, it didn't take HBO Sports long to hire its replacement for Bob Costas, who parted company a couple days ago with the AOL/TimeWarner-owned pay cable network to become the newest member of MLB Network. According to awfulannouncing.com, HBO has hired Joe Buck, lead PBP of FOX Sports' MLB & NFL coverage, to host a new sports-themed show starting in May. The new show, which currently doesn't have a title, will feature an audience in a town hall-like setting & air on a quarterly basis. Joe had taped a pilot for a proposed new latenight show for FOX, but those plans are currently on hold.

Ugh... Keep em both.

Unfortunately I will probably end up tuning in
anyway to see what it is like.

I hope this means less Joe Buck doing play by play on Fox. Him and Tim McCarver are awful. Id rather hear Dick Stockon teamed with Ron Santo. It will be good to hear Costas doing MLB though. It's been a long time since he has had an on air play by play gig. He was always solid on NBC baseball telecasts.

Can't agree enough - HBO just replaced a pompous blowhole with a bigger one - I can't stand that fuckin' guy Joe Buck and seriously wish bodily harm - I wish that he would've gotten the late nite gig on FOX and it failed miserably to knock him down a notch or two...

Why not pair up Joe Morgan and Joe Buck? Make it twice as sucky!!!

Douchebag, I have noticed Joe Buck doing fewer MLB games on FOX. While his regular partner, Tim McCarver, is always at the network's marquee "Game of the Week", I noticed Dick Stockton, Kenny Albert & the even more annoying Josh Lewin working games with McCarver this past season. I'm sorry, fans...Lewin, also the PBP of the Texas Rangers on FSN Southwest, sucked when he was here & couldn't hold Harry Caray's mike. He was that annoying!

Couldn't disagree more with the thoughts on Buck...I love his work, and think he's very good at both baseball and football games.

I think Joe Buck wants to branch out and do things besides calling PBP on both MLB & NFL on FOX. Long before former MTV VJ Carson Daly & "Last Call", NBC gave Bob Costas a forum to talk with people not necessarily sports-related on a little 30 minute show called "Later" which aired following "Late Night with David Letterman" in the late '80s. I think Joe eventually wants to do something similar.

Too bad he didn't get this gig before he had to close the restaurant.
