If you tune into MLB Network's coverage of the Friday, July 8th game between the New York Mets & World Champion San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park, you will notice a pair of familiar faces calling the game.

One of them is Bob Costas, who has called games on MLBN for sometime now. The other is Al Michaels. Yes, folks, the same Al who is the voice of NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football" with Cris Collinsworth & sideline reporter Andrea Kremer during football season. What some may not remember is that Al was also one of the voices of ABC Sports' "Monday Night Baseball" starting in 1977 and was also the voice of 2 World Series with the alphabet network. Al & Tim McCarver provided the call of the 1985 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals & Kansas City Royals, along with the 1989 World Series between the Oakland A's & San Francisco Giants. That of course was the one interrupted by a big time earthquake before Game 3 of the series at Candlestick Park.

It will be the first time that Costas & Michaels, now teammates at NBC, have ever called a Major League Baseball game together. It will also be Al's first MLB game in some 15 years. Bob & Al will also provide guest commentary on the team's respective regional broadcasts that night on SportsNet New York (SNY) for the Mets & Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for the Giants during the middle innings of the July 8th game. MLBN's call during the 4th, 5th and 6th innings will be handled by the Mets/SNY team of Gary Cohen & Ron Darling, along with CSN Bay Area's Giants' duo of Duane Kuiper & Mike Krukow.

i knew of Michaels first as a baseball broadcaster for Monday Night Baseball before I knew him as an NFL broadcaster

so this is actually normal for me...always loved his work on Monday Night baseball

Keith Jackson was better IMO. Would have also heard more Drysdale, but that wasn't meant to be.

Moment of silence please for Don Drysdale...Thank you. Drysdale & Ken Harrelson called a really good White Sox game in the early 1980s when Jerry Reinsdorf & Eddie Einhorn first bought the team.

They only called 1 game? Who were the Sox playing?
