Starting Sunday, he and Steve Kerr will be here in Chicago to call the much-anticipated Bulls/Heat NBA Eastern Conference Finals on TNT Sports from the United Center. Could legendary PBP voice Marv Albert be adding CBS Sports to his resume?

According to the New York Daily News, the veteran golden voice synonymous with NBC Sports and the New York Knicks for some 25 years, is in talks with CBS about a dual role with the "Eye" doing NFL Football & NCAA Basketball. Marv would reportedly replace Gus Johnson at CBS. Gus left the network last week to become FOX Sports' new lead PBP voice on its upcoming college football package with the Pac-12, and lead PBP on both Big Ten & Pac 12 Basketball.

For "Marvelous", as NBC's Bob Costas used to refer to him, Albert was part of CBS & Turner's coverage of the NCAA Basketball Tournament this past March. CBS, TNT, TBS & truTV shared announcers for the first time in history to cover the "Road to the Final Four". Marv will continue to call NBA games on TNT in addition to his rumored new duties at CBS.

Those NBA/TNT duties, along with his duties as PBP voice of the New Jersey (Brooklyn) Nets on YES Network, forced Marv to cut his "Monday Night Football" and NFL duties with Westwood One after the 2009 season. Marv and Boomer Esiason were the radio network's #1 crew on its "MNF" and NFL broadcasts from 2002-2009.

I like Marv. Wonder if he'll switch up the hair color again to keep people on their toes...

Question for SHARK or anyone else. As a general rule I have been avoiding ESPN for several years now. I watched the Bulls game on the stream and saw Stuart Scott, or someone that looked something like Stuart Scott, but couldn't speak like Stuart Scott. Then I see his name and it is indeed Stuart Scott. Talk about aging. What the heck happened to that guy? I haven't been a bigfan of the guy, but he really looked and sounded bad.

Hearing Marv brings back memories of the Bulls first 3 peat. I always loved how he had different length toupees. He could put one on, and it would look like he got a haircut.

YES!!

 Had no idea. I wouldn't necessarily mind if he was removed from my TV. That said I hope he beats it.

ESPN anchor Stuart Scott battling cancer
January 31, 2011|By Shannon J. Owens, Orlando Sentinel
ESPN anchor Stuart Scott is battling cancer according to the sports network.

He will attempt to maintain a normal schedule as he undergoes chemotherapy after doctors discovered cancerous tissue, according to online reports.

Stuart Scott, 45, previously worked for WESH in Orlando before making the leap to ESPN in 1993 where he quickly became a popular personality with his signature catchphrase “Boo Yah!” Scott underwent chemotherapy four years ago when doctors discovered a malignancy during an emergency appendectomy in 2007.

“There are 28 million cancer survivors worldwide,” Scott said in a statement. “You know what that means? . . . we've got a strong army!! Once again, I join the fight and like 3 years ago, I plan to beat this thing. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate everyone’s well wishes and support. I’ll be back at work soon…probably sooner than you think. I am blessed to have the invaluable support of a great team of doctors, my loving family, genuine friends, and my ESPN family.”

He actually says "Boo Yow" which is really stupid.

I'll never forget Marv's call of the All-Star game Magic played in after being diagnosed with HIV.

Marv: "Oh, and it's Magic in the corner with the hooker!"
