Although WSCR 670 The SCORE locally is celebrating their 20th Anniversary as a sports talk radio station, so is ESPN Radio nationally. Both sports talkers started in 1992, and like The SCORE for Chicago sports, ESPN Radio has come a long way as both a national sports talk radio network, as well as quite the play-by-play outlet, too.

In 1995, ESPN Radio acquired the national broadcast rights to the NBA and wrestled away similar rights to Major League Baseball from CBS Radio Sports in 1997. Since 2000, ESPN Radio has been the national radio home of the controversial Bowl Championship Series and has also aired a College Football Game of the Week since 2007. The last FIFA World Cup was also heard on ESPN Radio 2 years ago. All of these games in addition to ESPN Radio 1000's local coverage of Chicago Bulls & UIC Flames' basketball.

Now, ESPN Radio has made news of their own again. Starting this fall, ESPN Radio will become the national radio home of USC Trojans' football, as well as ESPN Deportes Radio in Spanish. Every USC home game from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be broadcast exclusively on the sports radio network from coast-to-coast on some 300 affiliates across America, including ESPN 1000 locally. Since 2006, ESPN Radio's L.A. station KSPN-AM had been the flagship of the USC Football Radio Network.

The USC/ESPN Radio deal is the first such individual broadcast agreement in the network's 20 year history and is only the second such national radio agreement with a major college football program in the country behind Notre Dame's deal with IMG Sports. Notre Dame's broadcasts are heard locally on 890 WLS-AM. Who says there's a West Coast bias?

I'm sure their ombudsman will maintain the integrity of their reporting in both content and amount

I picture the ESPN ombudsman to be like the HR guy in The Office.
