In the wake of Friday's tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT., NBC Sports Network has pulled the plug on all gun-related programming & commercials effective immediately, according to Advertising Age & the sports media Website fangsbites.com.
In a statement, NBC Sports Group says "We do not feel it is appropriate to air such content at this time." The network, now found on DIRECTV 220, had aired such gun-related programming such as "3-Gun Nation", featuring "guns, gear & lifestyle that define the high-octane sport of 3-gun competition." That show has been yanked along with the outdoor shows "Guns & Gear" & "Gun Talk". All 3 of these shows had aired on the weekends, but have been removed in the wake of the tragic school shooting in Newtown, CT last Friday.
NBC Sports' decision to remove these shows and all gun-related commercials comes in the wake of Dick's Sporting Goods removing the sale of modern sporting rifles from their stores just a couple days following the tragic shooting.
