Usually, sports isn't the first thing we think of when mentioning the name Regis Philbin. However, there's talk via Sports Business Journal that the longtime host of "Live" from 1988-2001 and the first U.S. host of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" might be on the verge of a comeback at age 81.
Although it's not a done deal, FOX Sports & Philbin are said to be in serious talks regarding a proposed new sports talk show that would likely air on the upcoming FOX Sports One as soon as possibly this summer. The idea would be for Philbin, a noted sports fan and graduate of the University of Notre Dame, to be the centerpiece of a proposed new sports talk show that would be more like "The View", but from a sports angle. The idea would be to have Philbin in a role that Barbara Walters currently occupies on "The View" as a host, co-creator & executive producer. FOX Sports' bosses aren't commenting, but talks with the veteran host/TV personality in Philbin are said to be close.
That's not all. FOX Sports' bosses are also said to be mulling over another new show starring actor/comedian turned FOX Sports Radio host Jay Mohr, a month after signing on as host of "Jay Mohr Sports" on the Los Angeles-based sports talk radio network. At this point, FOX bosses aren't sure if they want to simulcast Mohr's sports talk radio show or to have the actor/comedian do a show geared more towards television than radio.
As for FOX Sports One, although it still hasn't been officially announced, sources are pointing towards this August for FOX Sports One to replace the motorsports channel SPEED & FOX Sports Two to replace the extreme sports channel known as Fuel TV.
