Only $8M was guaranteed on the contract. I guess the point I'm trying to make is if you were in his shoes you would do the same thing.

How many players who were franchised this year have come out and on two seperate occassions have said that they won't play here. I am pretty sure the Colts did it to Dwight Freeney.

Briggs can try and get his way but he won't. He'll be franchised this year and next year so he better get used to making 15 million for these next two years.

I think the problem also lies in the fact that this is being orchestrated by Drew Rosenhaus who was able to put enough of a seed into the crazy head of Terrel Owens that took down the organization.

This Briggs thing could bigger than any Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, or any other players holdout.

The Bears will call his bluff and he will play. He should complain to his union as these are the rules of the contract.

Sorry Lance, but you'll have to find a way to secure your financial future with 7.5 million guaranteed and then most likely another 8 million next year.

By the way, he is making a huge mistake. The Bears have all the power just like they did with Thomas Jones. If you believe the reports, they had a non-binding agreement not to franchise him 2 years in a row. This got Jones a big contract this year. I bet now the Bears say screw it and franchise him next year too.

This is not about someone wanting more money because who doesn't. It is about a player thinking he is different than anyone else in this league.

I do kind of feel bad for the guy. It would seem pretty clear to me that even if he merrily signed the franchise sheet this year, the Bears would tag him again next season (based on all of the other contracts that are coming up). Not that the Bears are doing anything wrong, they're just using the system to their advantage, which allows them to retain him and hold off offering (again) him a long term deal.

I understand his position, that this prolongs his wait for his big, guaranteed money contract, and exposes him to potential career-ending injury before he gets that contract.

Don't get me wrong, he is a jagoff for listening to his butt-plug of an agent and going public, multiple times. That just about erases any empathy I have for him.

And, anyone that talks about how much $7.5 million is and he should feel lucky, blah blah blah...It's all about your frame of reference. It's no different than someone complaining about being passed over for a raise when they're already making $80,000/year. Someone making $25,000 would call them crazy and tell them they should feel lucky for making what they do.

Maybe he could get a minor league deal with the Rangers. they hand those out to just about anybody, don't they?
