After watching him in college he never fit the possession tag people are trying to force on him. You'd think a guy like Hub could identify the difference between first step and top speed vs a big receiver who uses his body to take coverage out of the play, and is more than athletic enough to make guys miss and take the right angle to elude pursuit.

I'm over the moon with the possibilities at WR this year. And this is without the TE being a factor because they are busy babysitting the line. If that can change then the Bears have the guys at that position that the NFL is trending on right now.

Like others have said, it was nice to see the receivers have a productive game. Marshall broke free on a couple of long patterns. On the first play, Cutler connected with him for 40 yards, but the Bears would have had a touchdown if Cutler had thrown the ball in stride rather than a little short. Marshall would have had another big gain later in the first quarter, but Cutler threw the ball inside towards coverage rather than away from it. Jeffrey also looked good in breaking free on short and intermediate patterns. More impressively, he was able to make a catch when a db was hanging all over him on a short comeback route (the reception was negated by a defensive interference call). The db covered Jeffrey extremely well but couldn't disrupt the play because Jeffrey was too big for the db to reach around (if you'll pardon the expression). It will be interesting to see how/if dbs adjust to Jeffrey during the regular season. Finally, Hester impressed me with a grab he made on a hard-thrown ball that he actually had to reach for and pick out of the air (!).

Defensively, I thought Nick Roach looked pretty bad in missing a few tackles. On a couple of plays he was positioned correctly, but he just didn't execute. Major Wright also botched some tackle-for-loss/sack opportunities on blitzes. I couldn't tell if Geno Hayes had a good game or not. He seemed to just fade into the jumbled mass of players on the screen if you know what I mean. He is listed at 225 lbs and seems awfully small to play the strong-side linebacker position. Peppers remains a beast and showed up all over the field. Idonije was also really active. As the mostly disoriented and possibly inebriated Jim Miller pointed out, McClellin committed a crucial mental error on a pass rush where he took an inside path and left the edge completely unprotected. Griffin was able to run outside as a result. While I wasn't watching McClellin as closely as I should have been, it seemed to me that he didn't show as well in game 2 as he did in game 1. He seems to make an impact on "second effort" plays rather than by beating offensive linemen with his initial move. Next game will be a big test for him. I'm looking forward to seeing how he performs.
