Might have been his one chance.

I'm afraid that Rodgers will be even better and I'm afraid they are going to put more talent around him and might actually hire a good defensive coordinator. This doesn't look for my Bears.

So I'm not the only one who thinks Capers is waaay overrated. His Defense sucks year after year, yet people talk about Dom like he is Dick Lebeau.

I think even Packers fans feel he's terrible.

When Capers fell asleep in a playoff game a couple years ago it was all I needed to know.

The problem is he is NEVER the reason why they won. The Bears are about to invest a shit load of money into a player that isn't a difference maker. He does enough where a L usually doesn't fall on his shoulders. To make $17M a year you need to be a difference maker. He hasn't even been responsible for a playoff win.

It's tricky. You know, if you look at the 'advanced' stats, he had a really good game. Eye-test said he performed well (there were several costly drops). But, once again, he fails to break 300 yards against a porous defense. He's like the king of putting up confusing stat-lines. I'm ready to cut bait, personally. This game wasn't what did it, but this game also didn't sway me either way. IMO, he's a guy. He's like the 15th best QB in a given season. I don't think we have to dump him, but I sure don't want to see a long-term contract for huge bucks. Everyone says that McCown is a replacement-level QB; if that's true, our offense does as well or better with a replacement-level QB as it does with Cutler. So you stand a good chance of replacing Cutler on the cheap. Do that.

I don't really disagree with anything you wrote here. I just think he gets unfair blame at times.

I have always liked Cutler.

But I would be fine not signing him, going with McCown next year and letting Trestman try to find a gem in the draft.

I am not at all saddened by the loss.

This team was never going anywhere. This improves their draft slot notably by not being in the playoffs as chief tomato can. And save the "any given Sunday" bullshit for your idiot friends at the tavern; it absolutely does not apply in this instance. PLUS it will likely decrease the difficulty of the a la carte portion of the 2014 schedule.

It's a damn shame an offense this good - half cocked no less and still that good - ran into the window slamming shut on that defense. Thankfully the league eschews good defenses to favor anything above rudimentary on the offensive side of the ball, so the Bears' ability to be in contention just doesn't seem nearly as impossible a task as it would've been 5, 10, 15 years ago.

I hope they franchise Mr. Personality, resign McCown, thank Peppers for not signing a contract that went one year longer, ritually murder Conte and all of his relations (just to be sure), eliminate the poor choice of having so many special-teams-only specialists wasting roster spots, and pray to god Emery does well this draft and free agency season with absolute attention given to the defensive side of the ball (excepting for a 4th rounder on Fred Quarterback from Dickville State).

I've always liked him too and secretly I still do like him. It's just frustrating as hell to see a guy with top 5 talent put up average results. I would be happy if Kyle Orton was doing this because I know he doesn't have the physical tools. It's just crazy.

Found a good defense of that on a packer message board

Plain and simply these coaches work way too hard and way too long in reg season not even mentioning the playoffs. A lot of these dudes get into the office at like 4 am and go home (if they go home) late late. I'm surprised that this doesn't happen more often.

I'm still pissed off about that game. I'm sick of getting getting fucked by those bastards from the land of everflowing manure.

For as mental as I am I got over it about 5:00 am this morning. The defense was terrible all season and Trestman never really got things going from the start of games, which is some sort of weird spill-over from the Lovie regime.

Green Bay is now (and really has been since A-Rod started) what the Red Wings were to the Blackhawks. Gotta beat them to prove you are worthy of the next level.

This team IMO was completely undisciplined, especially on Special Teams. Lovie always preached on going after the ball on the ground and picking it up just in case it was a fumble. Mel Tucker a) doesn't know what the fuck he's doing or b) is focusing on fixing everything at once and is missing the fundamentals of football.

Bernstein always made fun of Lovie for saying beating the Pack was a huge goal of his. It should be for Trestman since this is the only way the Bears will get to the playoffs.

Jesus tl;dr
