I think the most interesting thing will be if they move to a 3-4, or just develop a 3-4 package. Jennings isn't a prototypical 3-4 corner, but could probably do it. Neither safety is fast enough for a 3-4. Bostic could be an outside LB in a 3-4 (and probably 4-3 too). Shea could be a 3-4 LB. DJ Williams if brought back, played ILB for a 3-4. The line is the huge issue. Ratliff (unsigned) was a nose 3-4, but otherwise I'm not sure anyone else on the line is a perfect fit for a 3-4. Peppers could probably do it, but has never wanted to. Wooton to me isn't fast enough, but could be a force fit. Bass is an interesting one who may be able to fit, but he's not that good.

Melton? Not sure how he would fit. Doesn't look like he fits on paper.

Forgot about Briggs. Not sure how he would fit either.

I dont think he was forced to do it, I think it was an agreement by him and Trestman, to keep the Defensive veterans happy. Briggs, Jennings, Tillman, Peppers, Melton, etc.

So now, that worked well, NEXT.

Ironically, I hate Lovies defense, but if the offense continues to produce like it did, Lovies defense is a good thing. But, they need some better and healthy players to run it.

Its how Lovie got his notoriety, he runs the cover 2, rushes 4, drops the LB because whomever they played had to keep up with 'Warner, Holt, Az, Bruce, Faulk" and you know they are going throw.

So, Lovies system was a huge part.

I would beg to differ that "Lovie developed Derek Brooks". Brooks was 2 time All American, ACC D player of the year and 1st rd draft pick in the NFL....all without Lovie.

He still only ran Cover 2 less than half the time, they just lined up in it though. Moving to a traditional 4-3 wouldn't be too difficult.

Maybe he tried to run it but conte screwed it up.

Biggie, you're a smart guy. You think after Marinelli turned them down and with the position coaches still under contract, Emery went to interview Tucker and said "we're open to whatever you want to do Mel. You're the expert!"?

No, that is not what happened. He said, "Mel, we're keeping the same defense in place, do you think you can run it?"

The funny thing is that no one gives Lovie any credit for the improved offense but he gets blamed for the defense.

I'm not saying he should get credit for either but it's just funny.
