Last year, the Trestman system was new and the league will, or already has, adapted. Jeffrey is very injury prone. Last year was a fluke and they missed the opportunity. Marshall is going to regress, if he hasn't already. Cutler is... Cutler. Forte can't last much longer. The defense sucked last year and its going to suck again this year and nothing they did in the offseason is going to result in them stopping the run and pass. The special teams are not very special.

As a casual fan, it doesn't seem like they are trying to build towards a new window of opportunity for a championship. It seems like they have all the wrong parts and they are hoping the Frankenstein monster survives long enough not to be burned alive by the angry mob.

I do think Defense can be fixed quick in the NFL...so this window will stay open next year and maybe even 1 year after that, but after that.....?

We all know Jay has faults, but he gets the ball downfield and stretches defenses very well. Every bear fan should be able to drop a list of 25 QBs who have been worse in the past 25 years!

if they focus everything on the defense for the next 2 years and this isnt even a playoff team, the failure will be immense and the then 9 or 10 year lack of a playoff spot will be calling for the head of a Mccaskey.

Then it is start over on both sides of the ball.

Isn't that a near impossible task with this team? There is not even one pro-bowl caliber player on the defense right now, that is unless Briggs just had one off game.

True, but I'd also add that he at least optimizes their skills...so far. There are a lotta OCs/HCs who have talent but are more interested in having that talent fit into a system rather than adjusting the system to optimize the skills of the players.

3 year window? I'm not sure the Seahawks even have a 3 year window at this point.

This season is it for the Bears. If they aren't an elite team it will only get worse from here. You can't have one player succeed from every draft and be as old as the Bears are.
