Yes I am 100% serious and I am 100% sure its the job he wants. Scout, front office, etc.

he breaks down film better than anyone I have ever heard. breaks down players and teams.

Angelo was right about 1 thing. very hard to scout your own backyard and this guy is perfect for it.

I guess the only members of the media the Bears would hire are Jeff Maher and jeff Joniak.

Durkin is a great example of a team that thinks out of the box and progressive, if they did something like this.

He is damn good at what he does.

I would let him handle the next draft. He sure as hell couldn't do any worse.

To be better than Emery right now is a low bar, but to find a place for him in the Bears organization is a no brainer.

I remember when Hoge worked at WSCR and Durkin was an unpaid intern and the guy paid his on way down to the NFL combine to review and scout the players. Came back with some great info,

Agreed. He is contributing something entirely different to the discussion than either the beat reporters, analysts or former player types. It seems like he would make a nice scout. I believe the self scouting people are the guys with "quality control" titles

Durkin is light years better than Hoge. Given the way Hoge was promoted by WSCR and The Game I was hopeful that he'd be worth listening to, but he really offers very little of substance.

its funny what not getting paid by the bears can do to your bears hits on WSCR... durkin freely rips them whereas ZZ is unable to do so (and im one of the few who doesn't blame him for not ripping his check writers)

but to claim durkin can be a scout is a bit short sighted... i'm pretty sure any competent scout does as good or better than durkin does.... doesnt change my opinion that it is nice to hear an objective voice reporting on the bears on WSCR

Greg Gabriel was the former scouting director for the Bears and an area scout for the Giants. Durkin's radio contributions are far superior to Gabriel's, so maybe Durkin would be a good scout.

As long as we are talking about new guys for the Bears, what about replacing Jeff Joniak with Dave Eanet? I always thought he does a fine job announcing NU games.

I agree. Radio contributions is high on the list of skills needed to be a good scout.

Greg Gabriel wrote a full page article about how good Caleb Hanie will be in the NFL. he scouted him , he picked him, he then watched him play a full season and still wrote the article. 5 teams in 6 years and now out of football.

His star pick to this day was Lance briggs in his 10 years...but I thought that was Angelos star pick. Other picks Gabriel takes credit for are Vasher, hester and Tommie Harris.....I guess Colombo, Haynes, Benson and Chris Williams didnt make that list. I wont blame him for Rex, but you did pass on T Suggs in that draft due to being 'undersized"....

I think we all know that the Bears made plenty of bad draft picks under Gabriel and Angelo.

To me, the question is whether or not Durkin would be any better. His radio segments are far more insightful than those of most other Score football "experts." But is he more insightful than the average NFL scout, who would be studying the same tapes as Durkin?

Quality Control is what we are talking about. "Scouting Your Backyard" is the toughest thing, Angelo said it and he is right, not just about scouting, but business. Seeing your own mistakes.

He breaks down game film as a scout does, not as rosenbloom or Senor Columnist does.

I think he would be a good scout, but we are talking about him self scouting.
