I really dont think ignoring the defensive side of the ball for an entire draft is a recipe for success in the NFL. I dont know how Fox and Fangio are feeling right now, they are going to be expected to improve the defense without adding any rookies and a handful of 2nd tier free agents.

They are still paper thin everywhere.

Like you said in the other thread -Pace isn't doing Fox any favors right now. He is drafting 2 seasons out right now imo. Which is dumb considering he's already had 2 seasons and produced mediocre results as a GM.

But its the Bears, so they're cool with it.

They will be fine. They invested a lot into the defense last year. IF he has a better eye for offensive talent I would prefer he focuses on the offense.

This draft was LOADED on defensive backfield talent. To come away empty handed is fucking crap. There is no excuse.

Trading away those picks to move up 1 slot cost them.

Yea for some reason that trade fucked up everything. He got too carried away tryng to recoup the picks and he wound up with a convoluted pool of selections. The trade up for Eddie Jackson is very puzzling.

They were only down a 3rd rounder. They had an extra 4th and recouped anther 4th. At that point, there was no need to trade up again. Still no excuse for coming away empty.

And there is no defending the RB pick. None.

By the time they got the RB they had kind of botched everything already. The trade down in the 2nd was kind of cancelled out by the trade up in the 4th, and I really dont see where all the talent is. If (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is great the draft will be great, but Pace didn't do much to hedge his bets.

I really dont see a future core of a football team here.

It should be Gase. It should always have been Gase. I think if Pace was left to make the decision it would be Gase.

But Pace was not given control of who coaches the team.

Gase wanted full control over the roster tho. Not sure how Pace would make that decision and be cool with it. You'd most likely have to shit can Fox and Pace to keep Gase around.

Not that I would have minded.

I think if they told Gase that he would be head coach of the Chicago Bears and have full control over his coaching staff but not roster personnel he would've stayed in Chicago. He has familiarity, wouldn't have to move his family, much more prestigious football city (the Dolphins have sucked just as much as the Bears in the last 20 years)...I think he would've stayed if they gave him the option.

Secondary was also problaby the #1 need for this team given the lack of turnovers last year and they wait to take someone who's coming off season ending surgery.

I am fine with the first 2 picks. But in a class that was considered deep in defensive help they only draft one defensive guy. Hopefully Pace knows what he is doing and we are pleasantly surprised like last year
