There's basically four components to a quarterback's game: accuracy, arm strength, decision making, and mobility. Mitch has better mobility and has an impressive ability to make good decisions for a guy with his level of experience. However, Cutler had a stronger arm and was much more accurate. I think the comparison is a lot closer than you guys are arguing.
Intangibles (such as leadership/willing to lead) matter for a QB. And Jay didn’t have that, Mitch seems to have that quality about him.
I think you’re dead wrong. Mitch may not go one to be extremely successful in the NFL -who knows- but he will not fail for the same reasons Cutler did, they aren’t anything alike imo.
Cutler compares far more accurately with a guy like Jeff George. Mitch isn’t anything like either of those guys in terms of playing style nor attitude.
You're right Jay Cutler does compare to Jeff George, but I do not think (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky compares to anyone that great either.
Also, whenever I read the work "intangibles" I translate it as "player x is better than player y, but I don't really know why." If we're saying Mitch is better due to some sort of ephemeral quality, I'm sorry, but that's not enough for me.
I literally gave an example of an intangible I feel Mitch has over Jay after using the word, it’s in the same sentence. Also putting ‘work’ in the place of ‘word’ in a post you’re trying to come off as intelligent in doesn’t do a whole lot of favors for you trying to come off intelligent or condescending or.. whatever your gimmick is here. Might want to add proof reading to your repertoire if you’re going to go this route. Just a thought.
Point taken on the proof reading, or lack thereof. Now, if I can shift gears to the portions of your post that aren't harping on proof reading, I'm sorry but "leadership" is about as open-ended and undefinable as "intangibles." How do we know Mitch has good leadership skills? Because his teammates say nice things about him in the media? Cutler's teammates by and large (I know there were some exceptions) said nice things about him in the media too. Maybe I'm simple minded, but if I'm going to agree that Mitch has better leadership skills than Jay, I'm going to have to hear some concrete examples. Like, "I've seen Mitch do x, y, and z and I never saw Cutler doing those things."
I maybe came down on you a bit too hard on the "intangibles" issue. It's a cliche that we all use. I just think Mitch and Jay are about the same level of quarterback right now, and if someone thinks Mitch is actually head and shoulders better than Jay, they're going to have to cite to something that actually happens on the field.
