After 18 years, training camp will be back at Halas Hall in 2020.

They are trying to make this a thin this morning on M&H. I am not sure why? Sure camaraderie suffers possibly? What is the worst thing? That people that can't afford to games have a harder time going to "camp"?

A very fan unfriendly move. Seemed to be a great way to build a fan base by allowing access to young fans, took my little bro to Platteville with me decades ago and he became a huge Curtis Conway and Bears fan that day after the speedy WR stopped and signed his program. Are they gonna start charging for Training Camp tickets? It would seem there would be limited space for fans at Lake Forest?

All they released on the topic was:

"The training camp schedule and more information about free public tickets for camp will be released later this spring. The Bears did not provide details about how limited attendance will be, but they will maintain "a public component to many of the sessions to incorporate our loyal and passionate fans,” Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips said in a statement. In 2019 the Bears had eight practices open to the public in Bourbonnais and one at Soldier Field."

M&H said its just a PITA. Even with free tix getting to Lake Forest, parking and how the facility is set up is just not conducive to this. It is made for practice and working out.

when they host STH's for the labor day 7pm radio show right before the season starts we end up parking at the other business's lots and getting bused to the practice facility.... so during the day if those buildings are occupied vacant then there is no available parking.

Hawk's alma mater and former Bear training camp St. Joseph's College is closed and available. The entire place could probably be had for cheap. Make it Mc Caskeyland

Yeah, that is a shame. I guess they got a really bad guy in charge of the place and he and a couple of cronies blew a lot of money. The tried to find some alumni who could help bail them out but the rich guys that in the past really helped with endowments and such, died off and their offspring wanted no part of the idea.

It is tough nowadays for small private colleges to hack it financially. When the Bears trained there, Papa Bear was a big contributor to Joe's and built a dorm building and other stuff. I remember Butkus sitting on the seat of a tractor and riding in a corn field that the college owned back then.

I tried to get my buddies together for a reunion at Joe's the last year they were in operation with no success. My gang is pretty well scattered across the country and we are all getting up there in age and some are disabled to boot. I still have some great memories of those days though. When life was easy. Nobody shooting at your ass. No concern about making money. No kids. Only making your grades, playing your sport, drinking with your buddies, and trying mostly unsuccessfully to get laid. 8) 8) 8)
