The funny thing is that Duke Shelley, who looked awful in the preseason and at the start of the season has had some decent to good statistical games recently:

But I suspect that he's actually pretty bad as well and that opposing QBs are just picking on Vildor right now.

This means that the Bears need to find at least two starting-caliber cornerbacks in the offseason. That won't be an easy task since they traded away their first round pick and also have obvious needs at center, wide receiver (two or three following Robinson's anticipated departure) inside linebacker (can't go with Ogletree/Trevathan any more), and defensive tackle (Hicks won't be re-signed, will he? ).

Fire Nagy and get a competent head coach (understood that’s easier said than done) and all of a sudden your needs lessen.

You can always find a competent Christian Kirksey type ILB for the minimum. You can get slot/possession guys like Cole Beasley that will work well with Fields for cheap if your pro scout personell dept is solid.

Packers and Chiefs both found what look to be like long term starters at Center after the first round this year. Seems doable.

CB seems tougher. Agree that seems like a tough task to fill this offseason but idk what their cap situation will be so maybe they sign some guys.

I know it seems reductive but get a good head coach and i think with fields a lot of this shit works itself out. Without a good coach it feels like you’re fighting against the tide trying to make every position group “good” and thats just very rarely how great teams are built

It was criminal to start the season with him as a starting outside corner. I would have like to see him begin as a nickel and possibly earn his way to a promotion. He's always going to be undersized and, therefore, targeted on the outside. I don't think the book is written on him yet as a second year player. That was just too heavy of an expectation of him.

There will be competent CB in the FA market. I suspect even a guy like Fuller isn't as bad as he has appeared this year and he can be had on the cheap.

This team should be transitioning into an offense focused team.

I've been fine with Duke since the first few games. You have to have a guy who is willing to tackle playing nickel and Duke has no problem with that. You should be able to find a guy or 2 to compete with Vildor for the outside job if he doesn't significantly improve the next 8 games. Our safety play hasn't done him any favors.

I really haven't seen much from Vildor that impresses me, and he doesn't seem to have any standout qualities. He's not elite--or even above average--in terms of size, speed, quickness, technique, awareness, physicality, etc. I guess we just have to hope that he develops. That's what happens when your GM trades away so many draft picks.

I agree that the Bears need to shift their emphasis to offense. Build around Fields and go from there. Start by solidifying the offensive line, particularly at center and left tackle, and then find some receivers.

I agree that Shelley has tightened up his coverage since the first few games. I'm still not sure if he's any good, though, because QBs are finding it so easy to pick on Vildor.

Completely agree that protecting Fields has to be the #1 priority. They have to be willing to spend whatever it takes to accomplish that. It's unlikely Peters can get another year from Father Time. Hitting on Borom and Jenkins would be clutch. It's easier to find a center and guard than a LT.
