I remain interested in Eliot Wolf. The guy has a great pedigree, has been involved with drafts since he was a teenager, and now has experience in multiple organizations. I don't know much more about him than that, but the fact that the Packers passed on him may be a good sign.

What has Poles done in the past 4 years? The Chiefs have been AWFUL drafting. The Bears should have reached out to John Dorsey.

FWIW, 2021 2nd rounder, Creed Humphrey might be the best center in football already

Jonathan Taylor and DK Metcalf were passed over for CEH and Nicole Hardman. No chance Dorsey makes those mistakes.

I heard somebody on the NFL channel--can't remember who it was--say that it was Poles who persuaded Reid to pull the trigger on Mahomes. Poles supposedly loved Mahomes and bombarded him with Mahomes highlights until Reid buckled.

It's no small feat to get Reid buckled.

If that is true about Poles and his love for Mahomes it is pretty clear what has happened to impress George. Poles came in and raved about Fields and went over the top on telling them how he has a plan to turn Fields into the next Mahomes. George was smitten with the young man and was ready to pick him up at the airport, and probably offer to carry his bags.

The Matt Nagy playbook.

I thought it was supposed to have been Veatch who did the heavy lifting with Reid & Dorsey.

Breer on with Kap and J. Hood just said he thinks Poles is hired today.

Hiring Poles would be similar to the Pace hire, a young unproven guy who could be good or be overwhelmed like Pace.

Pairing him with Quinn, Flores, or Bowles in order to give him a proven coach makes sense, any of those coaches would be an upgrade from Nagy.

The Chiefs appear to leak that anyone looking for a job was in on it. They can't continue to try to eat off of 2017 in 2022 when they've sucked since Dorsey left.

There are major differences of course, but doing that would draw some parallels to the Fox hire.

If they have so much faith in Poles that they’ll hand him the keys to the franchise, let him make the coaching hire.

You know what, you're right! I was fooling around with my circular saw when the story aired and must've gotten my nondescript Chiefs guys mixed up. :drunken:

Supposedly Dan Quinn has a killer staff lined up for his next head coaching gig, if you recall in Atlanta he had a young Kyle Shannahan and Matt LeFluer on his staff there.

His teams also consistently underperformed and had the worst super bowl collapse in history.

There is a lot more to the GM position than just the draft. Those were the areas in which Pace was glaringly bad, handing out above market contracts in terms of both money and years, having no conception of the value of draft picks, not knowing the market on trades, cap management, etc.

Sounds like a perfect match for Da Bears!

Poles doesn't have much experience and would be learning on the job just like Pace and Nagy.

I don’t understand why they’d do this unless guys like Smith and Khan told them to fuck off.

I would be fine with giving him a 2ns chance. He wouldn't need on the job training and he isn't looking for a check before retirement.

I see it one of two ways. The Bears are throwing out rumors of bad candidates to make the better choice look better. It's like when I say "Hey, let's get Burger King tonight" so when we get Five Guys we can say while we are eating "At least it's not Burger King". The other option is that the Bears are actually happy with Burger King.

Would much rather have Quinn than guys like Frazier or Caldwell.

But still would rather have Daboll or Flores ahead of him

I think they may be trying to outdo their Viking neighbors because they heard the Vikings were going to get Burger King tomorrow.

Add in creating an entire Scouting staff (college and pro).

He did get the McCaskeys to spend $100M on a training facility a year before he was fired.
