2 sacks today. Could have been a Bear instead Poles took a mediocre right tackle that wont even have his 5th year picked up

Character matters to Poles. Except when DJ Moore walks off the field in the middle of a play.

Took Williams over Daniels & Odunze over Verse. Poles is a complete fuck-up of a GM. The Bears are further than anyone from success.

Seems the number of Jalen Carter threads are approaching Caleb's.

It really was passover weekend for poles. A lot of young players he passed over making significant contributions to playoff teams.

Yup, not sure what George sees in Poles, but his opinion is the only one that matters.

The mind-numbing decision to hire Eberflus over Quinn made no sense at the time and looks worse by the day.

The decision to pass on Carter provided great insight into the fact that Poles lacked confidence in his coaching staff, he was afraid that they could not keep Carter focused, and we see now that was the correct assessment, but brings up an almost more damning question.
If Poles was afraid that he did not have the right coaches in place to hire a difficult rookie why in the hell did he think those same coaches would be able to coach up anyone? He has sense admitted that there were issues with the offense in the training camp, but he did nothing to address those issues despite knowing they were there and that his coaching staff was incompetent. The coaching staff that he signed off on hiring.

Maybe a Biden type cognitive assessment needs to be completed on George, the guy seems like he is cognitively impaired, there is no other explanation for him keeping Poles around.

I have no doubt Carter would not be focused. What I'm saying is that's a double indictment on the organization. They were fucked if they took him and they fucked up that they didn't take him. If you can't shake your head at that, then there isn't much else I can say.

Carter was pretty focused at Georgia, on the football field. He has always been a badass.

Bears had a guy walking off the field in a middle of a play, a QB giving up in a huddle, and a DB trash talking a crowd at the start of a play. Those are three examples of many. I doubt an undisciplined Carter would all of sudden step it up for this bunch of ne'er do wells.

Undisciplined? On a football field?

No. On the sidelines taking off plays cuz he's "winded". He's undisciplined because it's his job to be in shape.

What I am sure happened is the Bears considered staying at number one for him and decided against it. Which is probably wise, he was first overall level talent but the risk factors were there.

And then when he was on the board at ninth they passed on him for the same reasons that they passed on him at first. They didn’t recognize that it wasn’t the same thing. That at ninth overall after acquiring the next year’s first, a bunch of other picks and DJ Moore they were kinda playing with house money.

So they opted for seriously the lamest player taken in the first round. A guy who had the ceiling of a league average right tackle who they get to parade around as a “hit” in their retrospects because he’s basically reached that ceiling. Never mind you could’ve just signed a player like him off the scrap heap most years.

Yes because no defensive player in the history has pulled themselves out to get a breather.

I'm surprised that character issues are still a thing in the NFL draft. It seems like losing millions of dollars is enough to keep even the lowest character people in line until their career is over now.

It was one of the knocks on him. It was all in the papers. Being in shape is foundational in the art of discipline. Carter was put in the right place to learn to be a professional. He wasn't going to learn it up at Halas Hall. Poles came out and said such. Lack of discipline isn't a deal breaker you can't come back from. Lots of young men have to learn it. I had to learn it. But you have to see it from who you are surrounded with. You're looking at it like I'm calling him a pedophile when it's just a common solvable problem.

When the Bears passed on Jalen Carter it was less than eighteen months removed from the Henry Ruggs III incident.

Really the only difference between the two is dumb luck. Both were equally negligent.
