Justin Fields was a 22 year old who was brought in to be a backup his 1st season. He also had one of the worst receiving corps in the entire NFL his first 2 seasons. His OL was the worst in the NFL too.

Even with that the offense that he ran (during a tanking season) was better than what we saw this season. Which ties into my larger point regarding Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams was gifted with much better talent than Justin Fields and still produced a decidedly worst offense. He was "obviously" set up to succeed in ways that Justin Fields never was and failed this season miserably. Now we can blame coaching or we can blame him as the primary cause. Most people here seemingly want to blame coaching as the primary reason. Problem with that is that Shane Waldron was viewed as a successful coach until he got with Caleb this season. I tend to believe that the same will occur with Ben Johnson as well.
I'm not willing to "give him 3 years" simply because of this. If you have the players and you have the coaching (which he had and Fields really didn't) then eventually it is you. If he doesn't make it happen this season then you know what you have with him and should look to move on.

There is no reason for him to be as bad on offense this upcoming season than he was this past season. Or even marginally better. You have the coaching and more than enough talent around him for this to not be the case

Well,I guess we will finally see what talent Williams has next season. I think all of any excuses for him are gone. He should be happy with everything in front of him. But as much as I hope for the kid to be successful, this is still the Bears and all of the fucking disappointment which makes its way to fans being disappointed. I guess I am still uncertain whether this guy is the real deal or not.
