The Sox playing in Cubs territory. That makes sense….

Are they trying to draw less than one million per year? At least propose something nearer their fan base like Gary or Orland Park.

From Wiederer in the Trib:

Quote:
But for some time now, critics of the Bears’ long run of mediocrity — the team has a .412 winning percentage and zero playoff wins since McCaskey became chairman in 2011 — have reasonably wondered whether the team’s path to greater glory might require different ownership.
The Bears haven’t enjoyed three consecutive winning seasons since the late 1980s and are approaching the 40th anniversary of their lone Super Bowl triumph.
McCaskey was asked how he would respond to those who consider the “Sell the team!” sentiment as prudent advice.

“We consider ourselves uniquely qualified to carry out George Halas’ legacy,” he said. “And we have every intention of doing that.”

Incompetent losers.

It's a negotiation tactic for the Sox.

The Commanders are going to replace their 28 year old stadium.

https://wtop.com/dc/2025/04/bowser-comm ... -district/

The team is putting up serious money ($2.7 billion), but $1.1 billion by the City for:

D.C.’s government would invest $500 million into the stadium costs. That money would come from the sports facilities fee, which means the city won’t need to make cuts from its budget, according to city leaders.

D.C. would also chalk up funds using a $175 million revenue bond to redevelop stadium parking. The city said the bond would be paid off by activity at the stadium once it’s open.

Events D.C. would also invest $181 million for parking garages, which the group will own.

D.C. also plans to invest $202 million in the roads and infrastructure around the new stadium site. That funding will help pay for a study by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

is still pretty steep to replace a 28 year old stadium.

Yeah, the move to Landover didn't make anyone happy. DC has wanted the team back for years, the team has wanted to move back, fans have wanted them to move back. I know they were looking at building out around Dulles, but that could have been an even bigger disaster than Landover has been, and once the Capitals' move to Alexandria got squashed, maybe they felt like Virginia wasn't going to do business as promised.

The Redskins are also ascendant after dropping their dumbass owner like a bad habit. The Bears meanwhile are further deep in the family tree of knuckledragger Irish.

Laying groundwork for breaking the lease?
