I didn't quite riffle through all of the threads about the game yesterday, so I'm sorry if this was covered already.

I think it would be a solid idea to move Dez back to the number one tight end spot. Greg can't block...anyone. Having him in there to block on running downs or when we are throwing is getting Matt and Jay killed.

Put Clark back in as the every down tight end. The blocking on the line and downfield will be much improved and he's obviously more than a serviceable receiving option. Use Olsen as the 3rd/4th receiver or obviously the 2nd TE in a double set. The 'bond' that Jay and Greg has not paid off enough yet to account for Greg's horrendous blocking. It's been a six game sample now with him as the starter, I'm done with it.

Does this mean that the Cutler/Olsen threesome parties are over?

I agree Dan. That would require the Bears to admit what I've been saying for a couple seasons now.

What happened to Devin A? He was a big target that Cutler liked throwing to. I know he is healthy by now.

Yea, I hope we'll see some changes this week. Obviously with Beekman, maybe even dress Jarron Gilbert? I wouldn't mind seeing Devin A in the game as well, But I think it's all moot unless we get our line issues fixed.

I like Earl Bennett a lot though. He's going to be a solid Number 3ish receiver for us I think. He has a great knack for tough catches in tight spaces.

A few comments:

1. I have no problem with Olsen being a situational receiver. He is not a blocking TE, so manning him up on a DE one on one and hoping he wins is just idiotic. Too early in his relationship with Cutler to say he's overrated.

2. The Coaching Staff deserves a huge chunk of the blame for yesterday. These guys were not ready to play and had little to no energy. I didn't know this team was capable of playing so bad and if that's the level of play we're going to see, we may only win 1/3 of the remaining games on our schedule.

3. On Lovie Smith's "momentum" comment.....Sounds pretty dumb. Was he being sarcastic? I hadn't heard the full context.

4. On Defense, the need to generate pressure. That means zone blitzing and interior gap blitzes to prevent QB's from stepping into the pocket. You can't sit there and watch Palmer all day and never adjust once to try and stop him. What did we do differently at the end of the game we weren't doing at the beginning?

5. No idea why we didn't load the box to stop Benson and pressure Palmer. Especially after our initial gameplan was clearly failing.

6. Chris Williams is fine. Orlando Pace is definitely erratic, but Schaefer replacing him means Williams moving to LT, which alters more than one position on the line. Omiyale is horrible and needs to go this week. Where's Beekman who is arguably better anyway? Kruetz is definitely erratic, but he's not going anywhere. I would swap out Omiyale for Beekman and force Omiyale to earn the job back when someone goes down with an injury. Don't touch Pace and Williams. A move to replace either results in a line shuffling at both spots.

I really dont think Lovie saying that is too big a deal. I mean, what the hell can he say? We lost, we're fucked, we suck? Teams have come back from widers margins than that before. Very rare, but it does happen. If I was a Bears fan I'd be more pissed if he said "We suck, we lost. We look like total shit. We have no chance of winning in this game." Obviously it sounds silly to say they had momentum, but it's tough to say anything that sounds smart or reasonable at that point. I dont know why they took the FG instead of trying to punch in a TD. That really would have gotten a little momentum possibly.

He could have said we are getting our asses kicked and I'm going to make some adjustments in the second half and we will be better.

I don't see why they didn't call the time out and go for it either. Maybe he was saving it so he could throw a red hankie and lose the challenge.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the O-line could be worse than the line from last season. If Cutler wasn't a mobile QB it would be even worse. They have to go back to Clark. Even at his age Clark is a better player. He can catch the ball and he knows how to block. On top of that he doesn't fall down when a 165 pound CB arm tackles him. Cutler got a pick yesterday because he quit on a route. I also believe Cutler could help slow down the pass rush a little more if he ran a little bit more when the pocket breaks down. He always looks to throw instead of get the 5+ yards that are in front of him.

At this point shouldn't the Bears go to a max protect package a majority of the time?
