When did Angelo get here? '01? So when we make the playoffs this year, that will be three out of six years we've been to the playoffs under his watch.

Crumbs they didn't make the playoffs in '01 because of Jerry. That was his first year here and he had nothing to do with the personnel. I tend to give the Coaches more credit than Angelo. Who really thought the Bears would make the playoffs last year with Orton at QB? No one did. They won in spite of his personnel decisions. Angelo is great when it comes to finding DEFENSIVE talent in the mid to late rounds but terrible at anything else.

Nas what are you talking about? Last I checked Grossman isn't playing defense. How about Berrian? He didn't draft Clark but I think he signed him didn't he? Moose isn't looking that bad a of pick up anymore. The Bears are and old school organization and they stick with you, they've shown that to a fault at times. It seems that Angelo is working out. A post earlier talked about turnover being 1/4-1/3. The Bears were what 99% retained?? That's ridiculous in this NFL and it's paying off on the field. Give Angelo credit.. He took the "crap" and looks like the product is turning out nicely so far.

And let's not forget hiring Lovie.

I'll start the list of Jerry Angelo's great offensive pick ups and I hope someone can help me out.

Kordell Stewart
Chad Hutchinson
Craig Krenzel draft pick
Marc Colombo draft pick
Jamin Elliott draft pick
Bryan Fletcher draft pick
Bobby Wade draft pick
Justin Gage draft pick
Brock Forsey draft pick
Bryan Anderson draft pick
Airese Currie draft pick
Mark Bradley draft pick
Henry Burris
Stanley Pritchett
Ahmad Merritt
Rabih Abdullah
Ken Mastrole
Aaron Gibson
Doug Brian
John Davis
Luther Broughton
Chris Chandler
Charles Kirby
Daimon Shelton

Robbie Gould
John Tait
Reuben Brown
Fred Miller
Roberta Garza
Rex Grossman
Brian Griese
Kyle Orton
Thomas Jones
Cedric Benson
Bernard Berrian
Mushin Muhammed
Rashied Davis

There's no doubt that Angelo is better at picking talent on the defensive side of the ball. I think what we're seeing though is a good amount of patience in the young QB/WR's, and not overpaying for veteran free agents to shore up the offense. He believed in Grossman, and it's paying off. I'm not writing off Mark Bradley as he did suffer a serious injury last season - I think next season will be a good indicator him.

Even if people are still not sold on Grossman, Benson, Jones, Berrian, and some of Angelo's other offensive moves, doesn't putting the #1 defense in the league, along with a kick ass special teams unit outweigh that.

We now have a good offense, maybe even a very good offense - time will tell on that, but if we can get to the magic number of 20 points, the Bears will be nearly unbeatable.

lose to Sea
beat Buff

The Bears would be 4-1 with Orton at QB. They still have a defense that nobody can score on. Detroit is horrible, they are not winning at Soldier Field.

You really think they would have lost 3 straight games ???

I'm not a big Orton fan - he stunk, but one thing he didn't do was make costly turnovers (outside of the Bengals game last season). I would expect modest improvement by Orton, and combined with the defense, they are still tough to beat.

Lose to Detroit? Have you seen Detroit this year?

I was thinking it was DET at home after they played SEA close.

CHI at home w/Ortin = w

I can't believe I forgot about Kasim "turnstile" Mitchell. I think his second or third choice at head coach was his best move.

You said he was terrible at everything else other than selecting defensive talent. I didn't say the guy had 100% success rate, but if you look at the impact players he has brought on, he deserves some credit. He obviously saw things in Rex, Clark, Berrian that most people did not. And who cares if Lovie was his 10th choice? Would Nick Saban have been a bad hire? Who knows and who gives a shit. Bottom line is he hired Lovie, don't discredit the decision.
