In a way, the number of interceptions thrown is somewhat arbitrary. All things being equal, fewer ints are better, but all things are seldom equal. Would you take 4000 yards and 20 ints over 3000 yards and 19 ints? Of course. Would you take 4000 and 20 over 3000 and 15? That's a closer call.

If Cutler throws 20 interceptions in 500 passes, and the offense is generally efficient, ill take that. The optimal number of interceptions isn't necessarily zero.

14 RZ INT's is bad. No matter how many yards you pass for.
Yardage means nothing really.
Give me a TD/INT ratio that is favorable.
In his case it wasn't favorable.

History says he will throw about 20 interceptions. That's the average interceptions thrown in the first year Martz joins a team. No QB or QB tandem (Hill and O'Sullivan) have thrown more than 22 in their first season.

So if he throws over 20 INT's this season you'd say it's indicitive of faulty QBing rather than a faulty program? Possibly that it casts doubt on Cutlers "Warnerlike Awareness"?

Right, its more complicated than I made it sound. You could substitute TDs for yards and I wouldn't disagree. You're right about the red zone int figures though, there is no realistic scenario where that is OK.

By the way, Devin Hester has grapefruit-type awareness.

I'm surprised you think very highly of Hester in comparison to others.

I don't know if I trust Mike Martz. I think he might be crazy.

Quote:
''I just got to tell you this and get this off my chest: I've heard so much about Devin not being a receiver and he doesn't learn well, and none of that is true,'' Martz emphatically said. ''None of that is true.

''He's a natural at it. Everything comes natural to him -- the recognition and the change of direction. He's got a great way about him. He's a natural.

''Of all the receivers, he's made the fewest mistakes. So what does that say?

''For some reason, someone has put a tag on him like that, and it couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth, and that bothers me because he's the sweetest, kindest kid in the world and to have that on him, someone saying he can't learn?

''It's just not true.''

That the other receivers suck?

My thought was that opposing teams would create the brand new "9 in the box" defense. Goalline on each play.

That Jerry Angelo needs to rethink his drafting strategy on WR's.

That he's lying and trying to give him some confidence.
