...and didn't over-think shit?

Bill Tobin takes Deshaun Watson ALL DAY LONG back in 2017. Maybe it's time to go OLD SCHOOL and bring back old-timers who found studs in the draft...

Yeah. The Bears used to always draft the right quarterback.

I would love to see what DeShaun Watson would do with the current Bears offense.

Cade McNown agrees.

Watson had two major knee injuries in college and the Bears have been about as unlucky as possible when drafting pre injured players hoping they will return to health.

Lol....read the article haters.

Tobin wasn't perfect (no scout or GM is). But he did want Montana and they were literally turning the card in when Jim Finks stopped them and declared they had all they needed at QB with Phipps, Avelini, and Evans.

And Tobin had NOTHING to do with Cade. Long gone by then.

I know. I am simply reminding people that we once drafted Cade McNown in the 1st round of the draft, and went on to start 15 total games in his NFL career.

I can guarantee you Tobin wouldn't have drafted a friggin LONG-SNAPPER with only 13 college starts ...let alone a QB.

Pace is trash.

Period.

Took a couple years for the stories about how inept McKnown was, I'm sure we'll hear similar ones about Mitch when he's gone in a few years. McKnown set the franchise back about 3 years, Mitch has the potential to set it back longer because Pace double down by trading tone of draft capital and cap space for Mack thinking Bears were in win now mode.

The point is that the Bears can't ever draft quarterbacks. Orton is the best pick they have had since McMahon based on draft position. Watching tape didn't help them.

The logic behind (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky over Watson still boggles my mind so I took a glance at their college stats (I don't need to look at the tape because I saw it, and Watson always looked superior).

Watson's stats were better outside of INT's. He did throw a bunch of INT's his last 2 seasons. But he also attempted a LOT more passes than Mitch and his TDs dwarfed the numbers of INTs.

Plus their completion pct was almost identical.

So to me, where Pace goofed, is I don't think he bothered to PROJECT what Mitch's stats would look like in as many starts as Watson. If he had, he would've seen that numbers wise, Watson was better. Just as he was in tape.

I think Pace drafted (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky for these jackass reasons:

1. He was the media darling. He clearly put stock in Kiper and McShay both slurping on Trubiskys noodle.

2. Mitch's 13 start numbers. Shameful he became enamored with 13 starts.

3. Color. I may get roasted for this, but you can't tell me the infamous private steak dinner with he, Mitch, Dowell, and Fox didn't seal the deal. Did he take Watson out for a private steak dinner? No. They probably went Dutch treat on some Big-Macs at a McDonalds Drive thru at best. MAYBE bought him a Happy Meal.

Pace wanted to get to know Mitch. But not Watson. I don't like to talk race, because it's sad that still exists in sports, but I doubt I'm CRAZY for thinking Pace gave (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky a slight bump ahead of Watson because of skin color as well. Now granted, I think that was at the BOTTOM of Pace's criteria, and I'm not saying he's a racist. I just think perhaps the white QB stereotype that has existed for decades came in to play again here.

Yeah, not getting the board bullies here? Must be a bunch of tiny little guys with little control of other aspects of their lives? It would seem there would be plenty of sand in this sandbox for everyone.

JGWP with more fresh perspective. Didn't consider Pace to be a racist but now the Mitch over Watson fuck up makes more sense.

Well again, were probably getting into semantics, but you can't tell me that "stereotypes" dont exist. As I said, I don't think Pace is a racist. I just think men in his position tend to fall into the stereotype traps.

Idk ....I'm just trying to make sense of how you choose Mitch over the BETTER prospect with FAR more tape.

As dolphin said, I'm sure the 2 knee injuries in college probably had something to do with it.
