Heard J Hood say that Warren does not want to hire a HC with a "strong personality", this must come from George himself, and it makes sense given the half ass hires we have seen over the past 20 years, he should be removed immediately, you are eliminating almost every successful HC in NFL history.

It would seem all of the alpha male coaches must know this and is why guys like Harbaugh and even odd guys like Mike McDaniel did not get strong consideration.

If this is the mindset a Halas Hall there is no way this team will ever amount to anything.

The fish truly does rot from the head down.

Harbaugh and Warren hate each other so Harbaugh was never coming here.
The only thing that will save this team is blind luck because it is inept from the top on down.

We should hire Jelly Roll as head coach.

The Trestman hire makes perfect sense now, could not think of a more perfect example of a beta male coach with zero personality, wondering if George keeps Trestman's personality test results and uses his scores as a template for all the potential head coach candidates.

George might be the dumbest NFL owner, now there is quite a bit of competition for that title, but you would be hard pressed to find an owner that is intimidated by guys with strong leadership skills.

Wonder if the McKaskey family all sat down after Ditka and agreed that they would never hire another Alpha male HC, Lovie did sneak in there, but Trestman, Nagy, and Eberflus are all basically the same dude.

Seems we will be following mock drafts in November for as long as George is running the show.

If they’re looking to avoid hiring strong personalities, it explains a lot about why we’re stuck in this cycle. The best coaches often have strong opinions and drive and that’s exactly what we need to turn things around.

Papa Bear must have been a real asshole to his grandkids to produce a whole generation of beta males. You would think one would have developed a pair of balls. Imagine how disappointed Papa Bear would be if Ginny was the only Alpha in the group.

This has been the case since Jauron! They are still to this day scared of another Ditka. Wannstedt was an attempt to have Ditka without the bad parts and even that was still too much, so it's been all quiet deferential types ever since. John Fox was the closest they've come to a red-ass football man, but that was just a semi-retirement gig for him and even he was still pretty tame.

Mac's new book apparently details a lot of the dysfunction, makes you wonder why you waste time following anything involving the McKaskey family.

All of THIS

George keeps hiring weak men that remind him of himself.

Yeah I’m not buying into all of this.

Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVeigh, and Ben Johnson are all boring low personality types and they do just fine coaching in this league.

It’s annoying that it seems to be true that the Bears avoid certain personality types for coaching positions, but that doesn’t mean they will never land a good coach because of it. It definitely shrinks the pool of candidates but it’s not certain death by any means.

I’d add new reports say that Poles and Warren wanted to hire Kingsbury but Eberflus pushed for Waldron. So it’s not like the Bears weren’t even interested in a rock star type to coach.. they just went with what their HC wanted and chose wrong.

It’s mostly the Bears stupidity that keeps them from landing the right people, not insistence on avoiding certain personality types.

Interesting stat out there about what Kingsbury teams do the 2nd half of a season...not good.

I agree it's not about getting a hard-ass it's about stupidity.

Agreed. I don't need meatball Dan Campbell (but I'd enjoy it)....I just want someone that has competence and the players usually make it pretty clear when they respect their coaches.

There’s a possibility that Jayden Daniels success is on borrowed time after this season. If he’s a ‘system’ QB that’s really benefiting from Cliffs play calling.. there’s a good chance that ends after this season when (or if) Cliff leaves to coach another team.

That said Jayden has passed a lot of tests this year so far and played well in almost every game. So there’s a chance he’s still successful even without Kingsbury.

Controversial thought here -I don’t think Gruden is all that great of a Head Coach. He did have a couple really great years early on but fizzed out and has never really been that great since.

His final years in Tampa were mediocre at best. And he was about the same level of mediocre with the Raiders in Vegas.

As a coordinator he might be interesting but as a head coach I’d want nothing to do with him.

I am not in support of him or expecting it to happen, just saw a blurb about him being interested in the Bears job when it comes open

Not only Bears org. Washington Black Senators, Atlanta Crackers, Carolina Pre-Flight Cloudbusters went with Quinn, Morris, Canales over Belichick because Bill scared them.

Yeah I figured you weren’t advocating for him. I just wanted to put it out there that I think he’s a bit of a fraud these days.

He got exposed when that Tampa defense got old and really hasn’t been all that since. His early years in Oakland were about the best pure coaching he did -which came to a head the year he took over Tampa and helped lead a team he had nothing to do with building to a SB against a team he did build in Oakland. But that was around 20 years ago.

He’d be interesting as a coordinator tho.

George would agree with you, he is scared of guys with strong leadership traits, not sure why because George Halas was not.

Yep. Harbaugh was the guy that they needed but he did the smart thing and wanted nothing to do with the Bear's. When I think about it, I've reached the point finally where I realize that the fans of all Chicago's sports team are doomed. Might as well start a fencing league.

I agree with you that limiting the search due to personality is dumb -I wanted Jim Harbaugh- but would you not agree that guys like Shanahan and McVeigh are good HC’s?

Lovie was a good coach, quiet, milquetoast/bland type of personality.. they found him.

Ben Johnson and Cliff Kingsbury aren’t huge personalities either and I think both could have a shot at working here next season. And I think both might be able to find success here. Keep in mind, both Warren and Poles are said to have been on board with Kingsbury after talking with him but Eberflus chose Waldron.. now we know why.

I hate the way they’ve conducted these searches, but even I can admit it doesn’t doom them to never finding a good HC. It just makes it harder.

Gruden killing it on the internet. Signed a 10 year deal with Barstool. Wonder if Portnoy will call out Gruden if he doesn't push out enough blog posts on the regular. Get Gruden in here, get Jaaah-nee in here. Tell him Prez wants to talk to him about his "work".

One of these guys has the faahr and passhun and experience to be a head coach. The other guy is Ben Johnson:

George's orange shamrock lapel pin reminds me of the hilarious incident where the Bears' social media team photoshopped the dyeing of the Chicago River from green to orange, captioned it "that's more like it 8) ," and accidentally restarted The Troubles
