We have seen him play 3 games in a Bear uni and so far he sucked in 2 outta 3 ! On Sunday night he didn't look like he knew what the fuck he was doing! Does anyone else think for being a Pro Bowl QB he just doesn't have "it" as Rex did. He locked in to one reciever and didn't go through his progessions....shit I better stfu I'm sounding like Zach Lo-Ho and Bernsie

Mark Schlereth (sp?) of ESPN was very critical of Cutler when the trade to Chicago was announced. A lot of what he said could be easily dismissed. Calling Cutler a baby meant little to me...just an ex Bronco slamming a guy who wanted out of Denver. But one thing he said has stayed with me and I have been curious to see if it rings true. He said that Cutler had major problems with decision making. That he tried to force things too often in Denver. So far, that looks to be accurate. One thing that Matthew Berry pointed out at ESPN's Fantasy Football extravaganza that seems true as well...although Denver threw the ball considerably more than Chicago did in 2008-2009, The Bears actually threw to their RB's much more. Cutler likes to go downfield much more, so don't expect Forte to have as many passes caught this season. So far, that seems accurate as well. To not get the balls in the hands of your best offensive weapon (Forte) often, is a mistake. He is a very good receiver, as well as runner. The coaching staff needs to get Cutler to dump it off to Forte more, in situations where guys are not open downfield, rather than trying to force it into double coverages. I hope we see better decision making from Cutler in the games to follow.

It's been one real game in a Chicago uniform. Our sample is one poor performance in a very tough place to play with receivers who repeatedly were in the wrong places. Can we please table any Jay Cutler sucks threads until at least week 8? Thank you

How many receivers can you look at in your progression in 1.5 seconds? The progression of Bear receivers for Cutler probably goes something like: Look to the first read, covererd. Look to the secon...SACK! / run for your life.

I'm guessing Cutler was pissed at the lack of protection and just started firing the ball to his first read, regardless of coverage, simply because he didn't have time to look for someone else. Bad idea, but wtf...
As bad as Cutler looked...and it was bad, the O-line was worse. Just ask Matt Forte. Seems like they're getting a free pass on this one.

Its akin to Republican douchebaggery. I have no idea where the hate for this kid comes from. Unless I am mistaken, it doesn't appear that the management in Denver, or a rookie coach who has managed to alienate everyone, are likely to benefit from a 26 year old QB being tossed under the bus in their defense, by all the blowholes in the league.

I want to punch Dungy. And I would do so in front of his entire congregation.

By all accounts I read, I would have been pissed off too, had I been fingered for a trade, for flavor of the week, Matt Cassel. Cutler went out there and played his ass off, on a team, and a front office that was full of cracks. And that is where all this stuff stems from.

And all this about how he acted at the podium after the game. Seriously, go back, if you can, and watch Orton. Really not much of a difference overall.

It's because Cutler is kind of a jackass. Here is what Bill Simmons had to say about him.

Quote:
Chicago fans have been wondering why I dumped them and adopted the Packers as my NFC North team and Super Bowl pick du jour. It came down to one thing: I didn't want to root for Jay Cutler. Has he had a likable moment yet? This year will be his coming-out party as the most despised player in football. Every time they show him on the sidelines, he looks like a pissed-off trust-fund kid who can't believe the valet scratched his Escalade hybrid. And you know what? He makes the league more fun. I like rooting against him the same way I liked rooting against Rick Barry, Bill Laimbeer and the Iron Sheik. We need more Jay Cutlers in sports. Not everyone was meant to be liked.

No one in Chicago will care if he wins games here though.

I want to see him as a Bear QB for 5-6 years which will never happen and he will never win a Super Bowl with the Bears so wake up and smell the coffee!

Like it or not, Jay Cutler has an unlikeable personality. Either he's not as good at hiding it than most or he's near the top of the league. I used to rip on Peyton Manning for how he acted on the field sometimes. He had a look like a spoiled little child when things didn't go his way. It would be disingenuous of me to ignore the fact that Cutler is probably worse in this regard(including his time in Denver). It would be disingenuous of me to do the same for how he was a baby about the whole Casselgate thing in Denver. If he had been traded to Minnesota I gaurantee this board would be destroying him for that.

I want nothing more than for the Bears to do well and for Cutler to become a great player. I'll root for him when he performs. He's the same guy that basically said he made Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal into the players they were in training camp but now he's "annoyed by the crap that is around him"? You can't have it both ways.

If he wants to have the attitude of a franchise QB then he needs to accept the fact that when he plays at the level of NFL third string QB that people are going to be tough on him.

Bill Simmons has done a pretty job of becoming a douchebag himself over the last few years. His views mean nothing to me.

And really, I don't give a shit what any media type thinks of him. I do care what his offensive teammates think, and it appears they are on board with him.

A lot of the "expert" opinions have been mixed, if not down on Cutler. But a lot of them are easy to dismiss. If they are calling Cutler a crybaby, because he didn't like the way he was offered up in a trade, yet they loved Elway...well, thats just hypocritical-Elway cried his way out of having to play in Baltimore. So I look at those people as being less than credible. But when guys say he has shown a propensity for bad judgement (on the football field-in choosing where to throw the ball and when to throw it away, rather than forcing it in) that registers. I don't care if he's an arrogant S.O.B., so long as he plays well. After 4-5 weeks, we should get a better idea about what he has to offer...good and bad.

Ok, so the NFL Replay on NFL Network came on last night. I DVR'd it and being a huge nerd, I took notes. Here's what I surmised about the only real game Cutler has played in a Bears uni. These are in basic rough draft form, but if I had to grade him, he'd be at a C-. He had maybe one more mistake than brilliant tosses. Here you go:

Notes:
Cutler really good (A minus-ish) up until 1st pick, tried to make a play that just wasn't there.

down 1 grade, B- after first pick

Back up to A- after knox deep ball and well thrown pass where Clark hung him out to dry in endzone. It was even a catchable ball despite (bounced off Dez's left palm).

down to B- for Jolly pic, (Omiyale turnstiled by clay mathews) tried to dump off to Forte, lazy play, (should have thrown it out of endzone? no time maybe).

now C+ for incomplete, (playaction, didn't step up in pocket, had good pocket formed, rolled out instead)

D+ across body throw, knox off route (too late?), wouldn't have made it anyway, picked off. Omiyale turnstiled again, but cutler had made some time.

Nice delayed toss to knox (slant). (Quick drop)
Happyfeet, great pass to Bennett regardless.
50ish yd Hail Mary (Olsen should have caught????)

2nd half:
Gorgeous toss to Bennet on 15yd out, back to a C.

Deep ball (AUDIBLE????) to hester, back to B (nick collins said it was a "hell of a throw" postgame).

Nice seam pass to clark (then broken ribs), B/B+

Sack B, should have been out to hester or check down to Forte. waited too long.

Meh pass over middle, Still B.
Meh pass slant, Still B

Near pick, (should have been pick, threw across body) C.
Tipped pass, illegal contact on harris (Stared down WR Bennett all day, tipped, no catch, could have been better)
Flushed out, check down to olsen, happy feet, C still.
Bears flavor of teh decade short yardage pass to FB on 3rd and short, still a C.
Couldn't do anything on 3rd with olsen well covered 3rd and goal from the 4... rollout right.
Final pick, Knox cut off route as jay was throwing, not his fault, Harris PDef's at worst if knox continues. Still a C.

Thrown in a minus for the 4 picks and there you go... not horrendous, but not terrible either. You have a C-

also:
omiyale turnstile count (4x), last was hurt knee. made 1 good block on a forte 11-ish yd run left. He sucks.

Hillenmeyer bad x2+1/2(w/blitz and no pen), pancaked one time, missed gap assignment the other (+urlacher was like "WTF is he doing" when they cut to him after that play. Otherwise Hunter was OK.

With all do respect, I don't believe Tom Brady, Eli Manning or Big Ben act this way. I know Eli was a db when he was traded to the Giants, and that Big Ben crashed his motorcycle, but these guys are all franchise QBs are not douchebags.

Cutler has A LOT to prove. He looked nervous and scared in that Packers game.

You give him an A right up until his first pick? Do you even remember his first couple of passes? They were thrown into the ground, when he had guys open in the flat. He just threw the ball terribly. The announcer commented that it must be opening game jitters. His yardage was the only thing that was about what an expected average might be. But don't be fooled by the fact that 2 of the 4 picks were not his fault. 3 of his other passes that should have been intercepted, were dropped by defenders. He deserved the 4 pick total. Bad game...grade D.

The line was horrible. You are correct, that has been somewhat overlooked.

Exactly. I don't care if Cutler is the biggest jagoff in the world, as long as he wins football games.

cutler first game: bad

Cutler's future Bears career: good

If he gets a better line and one, just one marquee reciever.

Yet he does a lot of things Grossman could NEVER do.

More mobile. Better arm. More accurate.

What's funny Walt is most people may not realize it. Grossman would make some great throws just like Cutler and then do some things that make you want to bang your head against the wall. I know most of his supporters don't want to admit it but he looks a lot like Grossman did.

Yet he does a lot of things Grossman could NEVER do.

More mobile. Better arm. More accurate.

That is true but those problems need to be addressed or he will never approach his potential.

Agreed. But watching him for 1 series you can see how different it is from Rex.

The whole offense has been disappointing. This staff could screw him up and I think they played a large part in screwing Grossman up and to some degree Orton.

I don't think Cutler and Forte are as bad as they have been playing.

Take a look at Cutler's career stats and you'll find that he is pretty much the same player as he was in Denver...for better or worse.
