John Madden seemed very close to making that declaration, and he is the nation's number 1 farve expert.

It was almost like Madden was intentionally supplying Sunday Night John with material for today's MJH appearance.

I can almost hear it now:

Of course, no one is Brett Favre but Brett Favre. But if Brett Favre were to play in tonight's game, he'd be Rex Grossman. And if Rex Grossman were to play in Lambeau Field, he'd actually play under the name Favre. And he'd be on the Packers. So when the Bears play in Green Bay, they have to start Griese at QB since Favre can only play for the Packers. Unless the NFL let Brett Favre play QB for both teams, which they should do. Since Brett Favre makes everyone around him better, it stands to reason that the game itself would be better if Brett Favre played for both teams, or even all the positions on both teams. Forget about Chicago vs. Green Bay. Who would win if Brett Favre played against himself? Brett Favre, that's who!

I believe Cris Collingsworth also called him Favre-like. Ugh!

It goes without saying that if Rex actually turned out like Favre (15+ years, a super bowl, winning record), I might be so happy that I'd poop myself.

Is it me, or do you guys agree that Frank Caliendo is a better John Madden these days than John Madden himself? I think the networks should fire Madden and hire Caliendo to impersonate him in his stead.

I agree. Madden has now become a bad parody of Sunday Night John. Boom!

If Coach would have played (by himself) the score would have been 337 - 3. A little closer if it were mini Ditka 105-6.

Back when I still had season tickets, they used to sell "Brett Favre Swallows" t-shirts around the Soldier Field. Has anyone seen them lately?

They were selling them yesterday in the 31st street lot.

Rocks, I know you're one of the younger guys like myself who doesn't get the Ditka stuff. I've just learned to smile and nod about it.

Weird. I'm 25 and I barely remember any of it. I was too busy watching Sesame Street, playing with my GI Joes and my brother's Atari 2600.

I can kind of see the Favre in Rex. Rex has that gunslinger mentality and Favre smile when he connects down the field. I for one hope that Madden is correct.

I'm 24, I remember some of it, but I dont care anymore. I've used this analogy(sp) before, it's the old hippie talking about how great the 60's were, I bet they were great too, but let's move on. It was 20+ years ago and it was only one title, at least the brain dead hippie is talking about a whole decade

As long suffering a Bears fan as there is on this board, I have not had this kind of feeling since '85. I don't know about all the Favre talk but Rex is the best Bears QB I have seen. I don't know if this will keep up but I plan on enjoying the whole ride. The next Three and a half months are going to be fun.

I have to agree. I'm 26, and have been a Bears fanatic since I was ~8, and Grossman is by far the best Bears QB I've seen, to this point in the season at least. Will he keep it up? God I hope so. That's the only question, at this point.

To say Rex is the best Bear QB over the last twenty years is like annointing a winner in the "Hottest Fat Chick" competition. Sure, its nice to be the best at something, but when your main competition is Erik Kramer, how excited should we really be? Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the first four weeks, but I can't help but be skeptical given the franchise's history...

Please do not forget the great contributions of one Jim Miller until he was no longer allowed to wear a uniform. I also really like Steve Walsh, Chris Chandler, Kordell Stewart, and Shane Mathews.

Forgot one: Rick Mirer.

Just as an aside: Why do Bears fans always rally for the backup QB to start, no matter how bad he is?
