Did you listen to the Hoge/Jahns interview with the Seahawks beat reporter shortly after Waldron was hired?

Not exactly a glowing recommendation.

I don't really care for Waldron's face. It's mismatched. He looks like a chubby late 20's guy, but he has a head full of grey hair. Like a character out of a Farrelly brothers movie.

I did. There were mixed reviews about him overall. A couple of people really don't like him and others think he's good. We'll see what's real. I think the overall staff is really good.

We rightfully regard the bulk of our beat guys as morons, so I put zero stock into another city’s beat guy.

It's now my life's work to find a photo to match that description.

Waldron sounds like a guy who is capable of putting together a good scheme, but is a bad playcaller. His success in putting together successful drives with scripted plays combined with his failures later in games makes him seem pretty similar to Getsy and Nagy.

Yeah, that was the knock. In addition to him having nothing to do with the rise of Geno West. Some believed Carroll was holding him back. Waldron doesn't command a room. It's not Trestman, but it doesn't scream head coach either

I thought Getsy was good at making in game adjustments his first season. Nagy was only as good as his first 15 plays allowed him to be. At the end, he sucked at everything.

Odunze should be there at #9, would give you a guy with some size opposite Moore, still need a slot WR, seeing the name Curtis Samuel linked to the Bears in FA, adding those two guys would upgrade your WR room significantly. You also are in dire need at TE and draft one in the 3rd/4th round, the approach could be to buy defense in FA and draft offense, which makes sense give the fact that top of the draft is supposedly stacked with offensive talent.

I like Coleman a lot and Bowers may be there. There will be a lot of great offensive talent available at 9 and the best defenders should still be available.

The WR group is stacked. No reason to worry if one of the top 3 isn't available at 9 (assuming they have a second rounder for Fields).

#9 just seems like such a perfect trade down opportunity if a top 3 WR isn't there. There will be at least one elite player remaining, maybe 2.

I look at Bowers as being in that group of top receivers. I don't care that he's called a TE. If they are lucky enough for him to fall to 9, take him and couple him with one of the very good WR who will be there in round 2. I have my eyes on Legette but there is some white lightning from the SEC, turner from oregon, ect.

Yeah, there is no reason to panic. I would also consider trading down from 9 if the price is right.

I think it's a great deal for us if we got a 2nd for Fields, I don't see it happening. If the bears draft Williams then Fields will demand a trade.

We're getting a 1 for Fields. I just didn't want that to sidetrack the discussion. Maybe it will be a high 2 if we trade with someone like the Falcons, but it will include a swap of 8-9.

Jets will be drafting an OL. I could see them falling in love with someone and smelling the Bears trading out of 9 to a team that wants to jump them.

The Vikings need a quarterback because Cousins will miss the first couple of months

i have always thought the vikings would be a great landing spot for Fields but I doubt the Bears would trade him there. If they want him gone they want him "out of division" gone, probably "out of conference" gone. you never know where the crazy offer will come from though, cant be too choosy.

super serious: what is the downside of keeping him in the division? has anyone seen his 4th Q stats? That's an easy two wins for the Bears.

It's usually a 12 month injury and Karen didn't actually return.

well, Minnesota has some pretty serious offensive weapons to work with, so I would imagine the Bears would rather not have front row seats to seeing him somehow click and succeed with that crew, especially if Williams (or whomever they end up drafting) turns out to be just a guy. That said I am sure if the Vikings made the best offer the Bears would probably take it. I don't think Fields is a very good passer but you never know, a change of scenery and an imaginative coaching staff could utilize him.

I think we do know, bro. He's not good.

He holds on to the ball for an abnormally long time. That was true in college where he got sacked on 12 percent of his pass plays while his successor, Stroud, playing behind many of the same linemen, got sacked on 2 to 3 percent of his pass plays. That's just one indicator of him holding on to the ball. That tendency has replicated itself in the NFL, where he's already top 4-5 in bears QB history for sacks taken. Think about that for a minute. He's 24 years old. He's also getting sacked on 12 percent of his pass plays while Bagent gets sacked on 3 percent, just to provide a baseline comparison. That's astoundingly high.

So for him to "click" it's not about weapons or scheme - it's about him changing a fundamental part of how he plays the position (holding on to the ball for way too long). Nothing suggests that will change. It's just who he is as a thrower. So, no, I do think we know what's gonna happen once he gets behind center in Minnesota. It's gonna be the same thing

OK. I still doubt highly the Bears would trade him there if they have other offers. I think it would be a good landing place for him though.
