3 vs 5

I could literally produce dozens of these so far this year.

Lucas Patrick, I'm not sure if he's every played football before this year...Sam Mustipher, despite getting in to Notre Dame, appears mentally retarded (in addition to zero athleticism or strength)

Posting 1 or 2 plays out of hundreds doesn't prove anything.

It's more than 1 or 2 plays a game, I'd say one out of every 3 or 4 pass plays is a complete jail break with this oline.

You think these stat nerd faggs could develop better metrics for Oline...simple..you have the line of scirmmage...you have your offensive line, from tackle to tackle...on a pass there is that area from both tackles that should be clear of a defensive lineman, how long can you keep those big dlineman out of that area, 1 second, 2 seconds? Calculate that.

You would be wrong. The time before being pressured and the time before being sacked makes it clear. They're far better at pass blocking than their sack numbers. They're also worse at run blocking than their numbers say. Not good, but definitely not brutal.

I feel a universe exists where you can acknowledge Justin Fields limitations(I personally think he's going to be a bust, backup QB in the NFL at best) but still acknowledge that this Oline is brutal.

If you think the Bears have a good oline, I'm sorry but you need to take a football 101 class.

Where did I say the O-line is good? They are not however ( as is evidenced by the growing pile of data ) the reason Fields sucks . nor is it "the receivers arent open !!". That doesnt quite seem to be the narrative being put forth though .

Good listen yesterday on Waddle and Silvy with guest Louis Riddick talking about Justin Fields in the situation he's been put in and how he's progressing.

29.5% of Justin Fields' pass attempts have been uncatchable and inaccurate. That's by far the highest mark in the NFL.

*Checks talking points* That's because he always has an angry 300 lb man on his back. If he had more time to throw or his receivers got open quicker, he would easily be the most accurate quarterback in the NFL. Did you see that pass that Mooney dropped? That was perfect.

If Fields actually turned things around and became better than average - maybe even average - wouldn't it be the first time ever someone this bad per the metrics actually turned things around? That alone is probably reason to doubt things are going to get much better. Maybe

His natural talent could have some team believing they can fix him for the next 5 years. His past success factors in, and the reality that he usually makes the correct read but doesn't throw the ball.

There are at least two things in conflict with how Fields is being evaluated.

Conventional wisdom #1: His offensive line sucks
Counterpoint #1: He has the most time of any QB, due to indecision and holding the ball too long

Conventional wisdom #2: His receivers suck
Counterpoint #2a: His throws are inaccurate when the receivers do get open (pressure-related or bad mechanics?)
Counterpoint #2b: He doesn't see wide open receivers because he quickly looks to run (pressure-related or bad decisions?)
Counterpoint #2c: Receivers are getting open, but they're NFL-open, not college-open (he needs to throw the ball before they are visibly open)

Qualified QB's (min 400 plays from scrimmage that season) since 2006 who posted sub 50 pff grades as passers for the season. Fields currently sits below 50, around 46 passer grade. Not a large group because if you're this bad you're likely not getting to 400 plays from scrimmage for the season.

Blaine Gabbert 2011 ( Rookie. i think this is the lowest in the time period for qb's with 400 plays that season)
JP Losman 2006 (3rd yr)
Mark Sanchez 2012 (4th yr)
Rex Grossman 2006 (4th yr, 1st full season, Bears Super Bowl season)
Blake Bortles 2014 (Rookie)
Bruce Gradkowski
Josh Rosen 2018 (Rookie)
Alex Smith 2006 (2nd yr)
Tim Tebow 2011 (2nd yr)
Matt Stafford 2009 (Rookie)

Smith and Stafford, tho Stafford was a rookie when he posted that low of a grade. Everyone else is not someone you want to say is your quarterback. Smith is or was barely an average QB and mostly based on later years with Andy Reid.

Detroit D is terrible, could see a high score loss to them.

He reminds me of Lou Holtz saying that Rice scared the hell out of him.

Chad Graff
@ChadGraff
I'm new to this but Bill Belichick's mid-week praise heap of the next opponent is incredible.

Belichick just spent six minutes talking about how good the Chicago Bears are. "Pretty impressive group," he said. "A lot of explosive plays."

(The Bears rank 31st in points/game.)

Did he not have about 300 yards of total offense in that game? They failed in the Red Zone and at least part of that I think was in the play calling and personnel they had on the field. To ignore the progress that Fields has made in bringing the Bears "close" to winning is very short sighted to me. I'm sure that their HC is drumming into his assistants and team the importance of FINISHING. To blame the loss of that game on Fields is really unfair. Catch the punt. Catch the ball in the end zone. Sneak the ball with a foot to go. That game should have been an easy 24-7 victory and the Bears would be 3-3 in their season.

You left out throw a pass accurately 5 yards to your wide open TE in the end zone.
