I think you are looking at this the wrong way. If the Bears didn't get Marshall, their most likely top WR acquisition would have been Pierre Garcon, after they were outbid for Vincent Jackson by Tampa. I'm comfortable with the price that was paid and the production in retrospect.

So in the past few days we have had some sort of 'statistic' more or less tell us that the Sox were better than the Tigers this year, Brandon Marshall is not even a top 30 NFL WR, and that Mike Trout had a better year than a guy who won the the triple crown.

I think I'll just stay with the following the results on the field and not put all that much into whatever a certain formula throws out at us.

Yikes. Terrible thought process.

Curious, what did Dave and IB see when it comes to Marshall? Whatever it is, I hope they see it in the rest of the Bears WRs.

Why is the MVP being brought up in this discussion? Is it just to acknowledge his 25 TD passes this year?

Have there been alot of MVP winners for teams that might barely make the wild card? Someone look that up.

Have the Bears ever had an MVP? I looked it up. 1 time. 1977.

Most recent occurrence was in 1997 when 9-7 Detroit Lions made the playoffs as a wildcard. Barry Sanders was co-MVP with a certain Packers QB who won 3 straight. So no, I do not think it's common.

3 straight you say....that would be 2 more than a certain franchise has.

Yes, the Bears blowing out one of the worst teams in the league totally invalidates years of statistical evidence. BEARS!!!

Slow your roll with "years of statistical evidence." Obviously his Dusty DVOAracek score is the stat of the future.

Bears single season receiving records:

Receptions: 100 (Marty Booker, 2001)
Yards: 1400 (Marcus Robinson, 1999)
Touchdowns: 13 (Ken Kavanaugh, 1947 and Dick Gordon, 1970)
Receptions/Game: 6.6 (Johnny Morris, 1964)
Yards/Game: 94.0 (Harlon Hill, 1956)

Marshall is on pace to break every one of those records, with 118 rec, 1594 yards, 14 TD, 7.4 r/g, 99.6 y/g.

Nate Silver says Brandon Marshall has an 87.5% chance of being a sucky receiver.

Gotta love the recent track record among Chicago-Miami exchanges. They wanted Ozzie Guillen, and gave us Brandon Marshall.

Thank ya.

Whoa, I didn't realize he was on pace to break Chicago Bears receiving records!

Marshall just accused LoHo of being 5'5" so he'll likely be dead by morning.

I hereby take back every negative thing I have ever said about Brandon Marshall.

You guys were right after all. This Bears passing game looks completely different.

I mean, it's worse, and against worse competition. But still, completely different.

Who would guess that the only guy that actually gets thrown the ball all game would end up with a lot of yardage especially once the game is out of reach and the other team is ready to be done.

When you're the only guy running a route on most plays you catch a lot of passes.

Ok, so what's the argument now? He's only good because the other receivers suck?

I'll take it. Whatever Marshall is right now, he's making the team better. And the drops haven't been an issue.

Brandon Marshall is clearly good, but his numbers are over inflated because he is the only person that Cutler is throwing to on an offense that is actually worse than it was last year without him.

The fact that Cutler is almost exclusively throwing to him makes his numbers even more impressive. Clearly other teams are aware of this and he's still putting up great numbers.

This team needs a WR that will get a lot of yards and score TDs.

No not that WR who gets a lot of yards and scores TDs. He does all of that at the wrong time.

 This place never ceases to amaze me.

He is, but the offense is performing poorly and in general it's looking better because of some garbage time touchdowns.

A lot of stuff is being erased by one of the most amazing defensive performances in recent NFL history.

Let me put it another way. If I told you the Bears would get Brandon Marshall, and the offense would be significantly worse than last year, you would have called me crazy. However, that is what has happened so far.
